I have my 6-speed out of my old '98 VR4, I was rear ended and just took the parted I needed off the car. Anyhow, i have a '93 currently, what do I need to chnage to put in the 6-speed, is it worth it, my 5-speed grinds going into 2nd if I go to fast..

I believe you need a 6-speed transmission, transfercase, driveshaft, rear diff, and shift linkages. I would just fix the synchro in the 5-speed. With a transfercase brace it'll hold enough power unless you're going for huge power. In that case, you'd want to upgrade to a SS front and mid housing for $1400. If you had all of the conversion parts and did the work yourself it would be the cheaper route. All you'd need would be a bellhousing brace like Kibwe said. Before too long I'm sure we'll have more people that show problems with the 6-speed transmission cracking. A billet endcase isn't a cheap fix but if you're not on a large TD05 turbo setup or bigger you probably won't have to worry about it.
I had my 94 rear ended and am thinking I will put the 6 speed in the 93 I have and sell the 5 speed.
Just get a bell housing brace welded into the 6 speed and call it a day.
In for the read.
A bell housing brace welded? I have a 25 spline transfer case right now. It doesn't even leak, thank god. So I will be drive shafts, rear dif, new transfer case and shift linkages huh. The 6-speed drive shafts are different I guess.
I will prolly just sell the six speed then for like 1200.00

yeah the bell housing is the weakpoint on the six speed.
To beef them up you can get a billet bell housing made or have a ring welded in at the weakpoint to prevent cracking.
I figured I would go with the 6 speed because of the 6th gear on the highway. Even though I have a tdo5 setup that will be going in this car the 6 speed has about 70k less miles on it compared to the 5 speed, I don't have to worry about the steel TC cracking on a hard launch and the gears are a little closer for the laggy situation that evo 3's can have at sane speeds.
I have everything from my 94 to transfer to my 93 so its just the time to do it. I do like the longer gearing of the 5 speed but in the end I will probably have my ecu overclocked for a 8k redline since evo 3's can still breath up there. 8k rpms in a us spec 6 speed is still 12x mph so regardless 4th gear will be required for a 5 or 6 speed at those speeds.
keep in mind its only the front piece of the driveshaft that needs to be switched out, not the whole thing
Ahh thank you. What are the limits of the 6 speed Vs. the 6 speed transmissions? MPH wise? I think the 5 speed can go a little over 180 MPH, if I did the calculations correctly what about the 6 speed. Are both 5 and 6 speed Getreg transmissions?
Here is my Current Situation. When pulling the transmission a pry bar slipped and punched out a hole in the bell housing. I have to see if it is worth repairing the hole, or getting a used housing here on 3sI from someone. Either way I am cleaning the transmission up tonight.
Called Mitsubishi today, they can't get me a new bell housing it has to come from GetRag, or I have to purcahse an entire transmission. Mine is mint! minus that hole you can see at the top. For re-sale, should I just get a new housing from someone Id on't think I will go through with the 6 -speed swap.

the 5 speed tops out around 200 mph in 5th gear @ 7k rpms, stock redline is actually 73xx rpms so you can go past 200 mph as long as you are making the power to do it beyond 7k rpms
the 6 speed tops out at around 185 @ 7k rpms in 5th gear same 73xx rpm stock redline but then again there is that 6th gear that is geard for 240+.
If you had the power and tires to withstand it you could do it if thats your thing. Major concern would be the oil in the transfer case.
