I did some turbo work on my VR4 and I had to remove the engine from the car. After installing it back in the car, I tried shifting into gears with the car not on. Nothing is working except after I tried to force it and it went only in 2nd. I looked at the shifter on the transmission and it's "moves" up and down as normal. Transmission fluid is filled, engine and transmission has about 50K miles on it. Anyone have any idea why? Thanks

Hi, i got the PM,
Is the shifter shaft fowling on anything? like is anything in the way of the cable/arm in the engine bay stopping it moving freely? If you didnt remove the shifter shaft then there shouldnt be a problem. have you put the cables on right? second thoughts they can only go one way unless you removed cables from bracket ? its possible you have put these on arse upwards the side to side shift operates the shaft up and down the gear selection (forward/backward) moves the shaft in those directions. just make sure thats right
