I'm new to the forum though not new to the car. Im currently building my car fully built motor IPS single kit orderd today!!! Does anyone know who makes a strong auto I know i would have to buy a jdm auto to keep awd and ipt you can only shift with a button, that and that does not appeal to me. Any advice would be very helpful.

I don't know much on the subject, but I believe that DeftSpyder has a decently built ATX, and that Nelson has a pretty well built ATX. I have no idea who they went through or if they built it themselves (I imagine that Deft did his own work).

Just some info to help you get started.

We run an AWD auto at 3SX. As far as I know, we are the only ones to take the auto to the drag strip. With the auto in the car Chris ran a world record holding 9.666 and has gotten a couple of 1.3X 60' times. We originally went through IPT for the auto work but with everything we have learned, are now doing it in house. Or I should say, I am doing it in house. For the hard core drag racer, I believe that the auto is the way to go. Although we have desided to go a different route than IPT for the torque convertor. But before we start naming off all kinds of parts, what are your goals for this car?

i don't want to hijack this thread, but now seems like a good time to ask this question:

what's up with the auto drag cars? I was under the impression that you were better off shifting yourself

ATX transmissions wshift faster, always right where you want them to shift. They just are heavier with more drivetrain loss. With many entgines this is a fine tradeoff.

When my car goes down the dragstrip, when I shift, you do not hear any loss of boost.... it holds because the shift is so fast. That is a big advantage. You barely see the boost gauge drop a half pound.

Most of the fastest cars in the world, drag cars, etc, are a form of ATX, as machines and computers do it better than humans.

Hey Brett, the car will Be 98% drag car. I will drive the car on street a little for fun. I hate giving out horse power goals cuz all that matters to me is E.T. im looking for 800ish through a auto or low 900s through a manual. I would like to use a rachet syle shifter. My goal ET wise is low 10s up here and 9s at sea level. Thank all you other guys for your posts as well!

So it is possible to to put it in drive and mash the gas? Thats what I have wondering about for quite some time, I kinda thought they all had to use that button shifting for our cars when they get up there in power levels... cool, I learned something new for today.

It does not matter how much power you put through it. You can shift it any way you like, with the shift lever and let the TCU do it, switches, buttons, an AEM EMS, what ever. You will still need a shift lever however. All you have to do is put it in drive and hold the brake and the gas at the same time.

speeddemon11383 - I got your PM. I would recommend going with an AEM EMS and setting it up to work with the auto. Ratchet style shifters are cool looking and all but if you truely want the full effect of the auto, the computer will shift it perfectly every time. This will give it more of a sleeper look for the street too.

Most important thing is to have consistancy and a auto will offer you that consistancy as well as the ability to hold more hp reliably.
