I kinda have this problem. My reverse tends to be a bit of a temperamental bitch. It engages but sometimes I have to fight it. I think it is my SSQ

I wish that were my problem. Any recommendations on who is the guru to talk to regarding replacing my reverse syncro? I want to know if its possible and easy to do it without dropping the tranny or should I pull the whole thing out to do it. (I just changed the clutch and so just put it all back together, only to have to pull it apart again! Doh!) |

You will have to pull your tranny to do any work on it at all. I know from experience that this won't be a fun job, since you'll have to pull your transfer case too, which also means disconnecting your driveshaft. Sounds fun, huh? I thought so last fall, too.
And I agree that there must be something in our trannys that are keeping it from even engaging. Chipped tooth? Possible, but I don't think so since it feels more like there is something actually blocking the way. Most times a chipped gear will engage, just slip on every rotation it makes, creating a very notieable jerk every time it goes over the missing tooth and catches the next one. I'm thinking that it's something more along the lines of the slider itself catching on something just before it gets to the gear since we can't even get it to engage, gringing or otherwise. And revving to try and rev-match the gears doesn't do anything either. I would just advise sending it in to Kormex since they know more about these trannys than anyone else I know. Or you could wait for Phillip over at Supercar Engineering to finish his dogbox (please note that many don't recommend this for a street car). |

Where is Kormex? I've also heard the name Jack's Transmissions on here before too. I'm in BC, Canada so whatever is closest is probably best. Oh, and dropping the tranny shouldn't be too big of a deal... I just had everything out to do the clutch! It's just the pain of having to do it all AGAIN, after driving for only.... hmm 3-4 days? |

Try checking your shifter cables. I did a 6sp conversion a few years ago and had no reverse. I took the car to the NG in michigan like that and had to push it off the trailer. When I got home I disconnected the cables and tried shifting the shifter and it still wouldn't work so bought a new set of cables and everything is fine. The 6 sp came from a car that was working fine and I removed everything myself. I still don't know what happened.

I have the same problem, however if I turn the car off and put it in and role it back just a bit it goes in and everything works fine. If the cars running and I start to let out the clutch it grinds. Where do you get the kits to rebuild these?
