Aggggg
Just got off the horn with John......real real nice guy. Well it seems he's doing quite alot of these but the issue is he's got an opportunity to got to Italy and won't be back till the 15th, and then it'll probably be another week till I get it back. Crap!
So do I put my original tranny back in and be nice to her or wait the extra month to put the re-enforced one in? Crap!

That's funny. I told him he'd stand to make alot of money if he did mine. I bet he's glad he took the job on now!

Yeah This is going to be pretty lucrative for him. I've been looking to do this mod for a while, but didn't know who was skilled/brave enough to weld the plate in. I am in the process of getting a new 6 speed and plan on rebuilding it and doing this mod. Maybe he should list his shop as a sponsored buisness. It would be great advertising for his shop too.

I'll be doing this as well, but is it common for the transmission to crack here?

I had launched the car a few times the week before this happened (not even at the track though), then I was backing up out of a parking lot and I heard a clunk and it felt like the brake was just stuck, then I look up and see a trail of fluid in front of me. Was this random or is there any reinforcing to be done here while I have it apart? And if anybody has a center section I can buy let me know.

That seems pretty random. the only thing i can think of is something broke off in your trans like part of a shift fork and then got sent through the casing. i only say that because i worked on a trans that had that happen awhile ago. pretty weird if that is what happened and lucky too.

that tranny shot some part of the internals though it. as you can see from your hole it is a pretty clean cut and did not crack though the raised ridges(obviously the stronger area).

Yeah I'm very lucky it didn't happen while I was driving and trash the transmission. That would make sense that something broke off in there was stuck between the gear and housing and pressed a hole right through cause I felt a clunk right when I started to back up.

I didnt want to wait for the guy trevor used to do my bellhousing. So we had a bunch of the plates cnc'd. I just had mine welded in locally. I Still have a bunch if people want to take it to get welded in themselves. Heres a pic of my finished product prior to being welded in... I have some after email me awerley@gmail.com if your interested.

About the plate in the previous pic, does the plate from PO machine go all the way around the part in the bottom left corner of the previous pic (where his is not connected)? Or is it just strengthened with bead?
