Ok I'm looking at it from my point... I'm aiming at 500-600AWHP (evo 3 setup) and had thought of going a dog box but being a daily driver (after its done its show circuit) I still want it totally driveable. Not sure how SCEs box would be as a daily used box or how long it would last. Some people hate the sound of straight cut but I love the sound. Also If I only used 1 2 3 straight high way use wouldn't be annoying. So what I'm asking is if I had the gears made up I wouldn't need the plate?

As far as being daily driveable, a dogbox can be shifted up clutchless so you could say it would make driving even easier. The only caveat is that you'll need to double clutch the downshifts. Now as to whether you need the bellhousing brace, if you're thinking of spending a few thousand on modding the tranny, why skimp on the $200-$300 to get a bellhousing brace? You could get Ray or PO Machine's brace shipped to Oz and have someone down under weld it on using pics from here as a guide to not overdo the welding. Wouldn't be that expensive. Although the straight cut gears will reduce the sideloading that cracks the bellhousing, it's still a weak point. Max Last edited by bluemax_1 : 05-27-2008 at 07:49 PM. |

If that question was regarding the dogbox builder in Oz, the company is called PPG Pfitzner Performance Gearbox
Pfitzner Performance Gearbox They've got built trannies for Scoobies, Evos, Skyline's and RX-7's but no one has thought it worth the development for a 3/S until SCE (SuperCarEngineering) stepped up. Max ***BTW, RPS is a US-based clutch company. Were you thinking of the Aussie-based APS? APS = AirPowerSystems = specializing in Forced Induction turbo kits. Don't think they do anything for trannies. Last edited by bluemax_1 : 05-27-2008 at 07:48 PM. |

yeah half tempted for 3rd...but I seem to spend a whole crapload of time in 3rd so I'm not sure I wanna have screamer....of course if your making double the power you could assume (that if you do it well and half a shitload more power down low) that you could leave her in 4th... anyway I'll let you know how chatty they are

Drive it hard
|
Has anybody else had a whirring noise bell housing side after having the plate welded in? Ever since I had mine done I've had a whirring noise idle and driving. I replaced the input shaft bearing and still had it. Bret said sometimes the hole is mishapen from the welding so I ground it down and put the bearing back in, the input shaft fit much better but still makes the noise. Is it most likely still that input shaft bearing? I didn't think it would be any other bell housing side bearings because they shouldn't be moving enough at idle to make so much noise.
It's bell housing side, and not the throw out bearing. I have the tranny out again and just wanted to see if anybody else had experience with this type of noise before I just replace the input shaft bearing again. Since the hole was a little ovaled I guess the bearing could have been damaged and make noise even though the hole is now fixed... or maybe the hole needs a smidge more reshaping.
