john did mine within a week. 300 bucks plus return shipping.

edit: and he did mention that he does heat up the workpiece before welding, to keep the cooling rate (and residual stress/warp) in check.

What's the best way to get the rings out of the bell housing that the bearings ride in? I still have a whirring noise after the plate was welded in so I'm replacing them all.

My six speed had really light press fits at room temp on all of the bearing cups(excluding the input brg). For me if I heated the housing with a heat gun and flipped the housing over, most of them would just drop out. I'd estimate that I heated the housing to maybe ~200F If it doesn't drop out, tap the housing a little. If that doesn't work, just take a small screwdriver and work your way around the bearing cup a little at a time to be sure you don't get the bearing cocked in the bore of the housing.

I would recommend against a torch...just be patient with a heat gun...assuming your trans has the same bearing fits I did, it doesn't take much.

The part the bearing rides in is the Bearing Race.
The best way to remove them is with a 3 prong puller and a slide hammer. They pop right out.

Has anyone done this to a 5 speed? Got the money for the trans from 3SX and more to spare for the plate weld if I need it. Probably 600-890awhp range at the wheels. I would think that the 5 will have problems without a plate or something to strengthen it up a little.

The 5 speeds aren't know for having problems with the bell housing cracking under high torque applications like the six speeds to the best of my knowledge.

Actually, according to DR in the last page of this thread:
"3SX T4 947AWHP 806TQ New TQ Record?"
There is actually a problem with it doing to exact same thing. From what I have read, not as often unless you are pushing some serious torque though. I am worried about mine, and would like to know if throwing the plate in it, will help. DR said that they had the plate welded into their 5 speed, and I asked by whom, but no reply yet in the other thread.

Just trying to find out if any one has done it other than DR, and if so; what torque made the original 5 questionable, how much, where, and so forth?

I knew DR had some problems but I haven't really kept up with what was going on with it (last time I followed what was going on with their race car was when Matt lost the oil pump and burned up the engine). Anyhow, I'm sure if you want it done that someone will do it.

Iam doing this to my 5-speed now. yesterday i grinded out the small "bars" that goes to the bearinglocations.. and ive also cut out a "paper template" that i should use to cut out the aluminium piece.
But i heavent tested it yet obviously =)... turbos iam using can handle about 900-1100 (not awhp, they have been dynoed to 600bhp each on other cars)

Okay, I have to know what turbos you are going to use (PM Me). As far as the 5 speed plate weld, are you having a machine shop do it, a trusted fried, or yourself? Post pics when you are done (timeline).
