I am using a pair of holset hx-35, turbinehousing #12.
I will cut it out of a 6-8mm aluminium plate and try to weld it myself.. if i suck to much on welding aluminium, ill have my friend weld it who works with welding.. (its his TIG i will be using)

P O Machine, John Redgate, just finished doing this Bellhousing Reinforcement for my 94 VR4's transmission yesterday, and is sending it back to Frank at Kormex Transmissions to go onto my tranny rebuild (synchros etc, Supercar Engineering billet shift forks, Supercar/Mark Williams output shaft too. Has the Kormex/LSD unit already).

Thanks to P O Machine, Kormex, and Supercar Engineering as well as all the others making/supporting the 3S, for making our stuff BETTER!

Here's some pics of my bell housing which I had beefed up by Ray; this is obviously his newer version/method:

Here's my bell housing next to another bell housing that belongs to Ross (a local member) which has been done up by PO Machine:

I just thought guys would like to see the difference.

anyone care to dump a CAD drawing of the largest beffiest plate for a 6 speed into my email? (michael@humedoors.com.au) I have a friend here that is brilliant with aluminium and would save me a fortune in shipping taxes / other stupid crap that it woudl take to get a part from the US into au...

If we used straight cut gears on 1 2 and 3 (yes can be a little noisy) wouldn't this stop the need for the plate? Isn't the torque load on the gears thats causing the shalfs to move busting the housing? Don't hurt me I'm only little ...

In theory, yes, straight cut gears would have much less side-loading than the stock helical cut gears, however....

There is only ONE current option for straight cut gears and it's only for 1st gear. This is from SCE and it's still not exactly available yet. It includes a straight cut, longer 1st (similar to 1st in a 1st gen 5-spd TT) and a semi-helical 2nd that is between the new 1st and the stock 3rd. It also includes a faceplate dogbox conversion for 1st through 4th IIRC, and the whole thing will be in the $3-$4k US region, so that vs. $300 for the bellhousing reinforcement...

Of course, if you have an inside line on a tranny builder that will build a dogbox with straight cut gears... I DO happen to know that there is a well-known Aussie company that has built straight cut dogboxes for Evos and WRX's, but no one else has yet done the ground work for a 3/S tranny

So I'm a bit out of my league here but why can you not just change the three gears to straight cut without dogboxing ( I showed a mates boss who makes Dog boxes here in Aus, SCEs box he says for the price its too cheap, Good on you guys ) is there a problem with using syncros and straight cut gears?
