ok now i know this is a newb question but i have search for the past 2 days and didnt really come up with a lot of info.
i want to know what the 6 speed awd trans can handle power wise. now to setup my plans a little i will say im gonna be pulling a whole rear subframe and 6 speed awd setup out of a car in a junkyard and putting this into something else. now i do plan to rebuild the trans with fresh syncros and such but i want to know the prices (general idea would be helpful) from what i learned the transfer case is a weak link on these trans and from my understanding there is some aftermarket part to fix the problem? also ive read about 300m axels are needed to keep from snapping them? what is the common failure ? also i would like to mention that this awd system will be seeing a lot of power so id like to make it bulletproof.. any help would be great since ive read all i could but cant get a proper list on the problems and ways to fix these awd systems. i picked this setup mainly because the awd system i want for a project car and the gearing is about perfect for what im trying to achieve, altho i wish the trans was on the drivers side i will deal with that. i got a lot of work ahead of me but i wanna make sure this is the right setup for what im planning... goal will be upwards of 700 - 800 chp and tq 500 - 600 ft lbs at the crank also. ok im half asleep so before i babble more im gonna stop.. thanks in advance ![]() |

If you plan to run 500 - 600 ft lbs at the crank you will need to have the bellhousing reinforced, a 300m output shaft and I would also recommend a LSD. The Cast Iron 6 speed transfer case is a lot stronger than a stock 5 speed. Pick up a stainless steel center section for the transfer case and you should be good.

if your planning on making a dream machine..(other then a 3/s) using 3/s parts to build another kind of car, you have already not caught the fact that these parts are far and few between to come across and are costly. Your better off using something more current in time so parts are readily available.

yes but these parts are more avaible then the ones for the car im planning on using it on. trust me if it wasent for the gear ratio and the 6 speed i probley woulda worked with a evo or something but this setup works better. after all tho there is a local bone yard with some cheap prices that i can get all i need out of. on top of all that this is a cheaper setup if you ask me to work with then a evo setup. also the wheel base is a little better fitting. but like i said im still doing planning and this project wouldnt be for sometime in the future. things could change but im mainly trying to piece things together and see what i come up with. worse case tho i end up with a awd system and a 6 speed.. im sure someone on here could use it if i ditch the idea |
