Question 6-puck Clutch Lasts 20,000miles ... ?!

Hey guys,

So I hear horror stories about 6 puck clutches, "they only last 9,000 miles" etc etc...

But then I hear that if you dont slip it and know how to drive a 6-puck clutch it has lasted over 20,000 miles...

SO WHICH IS IT?!?

I need a new clutch for my dd and it is about to get around 500-600hp and need something to not only hold it... BUT TO LAST!

I'm also thinking about an oem disk with an act or similar pressure plate... like the rps street since it is the stock disk right? (How much does this combo last and how much hp do they hold?)

Thanks guys!

well if you think your going to make a 500-600awhp DD then the last thing you should be thinking of is longevity of a clutch. full face clutch last longer and can hold just as good. if you think your going to make 5-600awhp on pump as a DD your best option is probably a RPS twin disc. but with all the head work you'll need done to achive your HP goal your going to burn up clutchs regardless. with cams it will take more RPM to release the clutch causing wear..

BTW throw that stock face and aftermarket pressure plate idea out the window.

Well the reason k ask is because all the mazda guys run act clutches for about 50000 miles on their turbo engines... why cant we?

As a matter of fact...nissan guys also have them forever... is it just the 3000gt crowd driving style?

I need inputfrom somebody who actually has put manh miles on their 6puck and doesnt drive like he stole the car...?

I had a clutch masters stage 4 unsprung hub. It died at 11,000 only because my tranny input seal blew and decided to leak all over the shaft to the clutch. It held the power(317AWHP, 320AWTQ), and I didnt ever slip it(race). I would always take off easy and then get on it like a 15mph rolling takeoff. Probly would have lasted longer if it didnt mix with the oil. And its pretty obvious why they dont last as long, less material, and more friction.

lighter, no AWD, horsepower, torque, driving condition, ect.

i put 50K on a completly stock clutch with a fidanza flywheeland 333awhp and 321awtq that was launching, and beating it. also trapped 113mph. my point is that it vaires mostly on you the driver

^^ True I mean I am a VERY conservative driver on the street ... mostly because of GAS!!!

If i can get away with a 6 puck and last 20,000 miles I will be VERY happy, plus this is mostly a weekend only car and occational trips up between Dallas and San Antonio...
