LOL! that throws a lot of ppl out here!! :P

OK i have drawn up a list of 11 jobs that I need to fix on this car. Hopefully should all be done in next few weeks!

1) Hotwire both fans so they are always on - Temp. sensor is broken, car overheats as fan does not engage

2) Engine Flush and new coolant

3) Wire in and fix rear fog light

4) Fix in rear battery

5) Buy new vaccum hoses and fit

6) Wire up rear washer bottle to front wipers

7) Fix ABS - If its anything other than a dodgey connection, I will delete

8) Fix ECS - If its anything other than a dodgey connection, I will delete

9) Finish off undersealing car

10) Properly fit in gauges and boost controller

11) Headlights stopped going up and down

you can hotwire the fans by jumping one wire. if you look at the connector that goes to the aircon fusebox, there will be a green wire with a black tracer and a plain black wire. (they are one wire apart). jump those two to run your fans at full power when the ignition is on.

oh man... i got a funny pic to show you.

my whole radiator out (as bottom screws for fans completly rusted on), both fans wires stripped and ready to be joined up to custom wire line I made.....

lol!!!

Thanks anyway dude, Il re-wire everything up and give everything a good clean and and use your method!

out of interest do you know if I can now by pass and remove the temp sensors on the radiator? or are they used as aprt of the engine management?

i believe that the mk1 vehicles use the sensors in the radiator as a separate power circuit for the fans. there are two separate sensors in the water neck for ECU and gauge. (and a third for aircon control). since you will be running the fans full-time, I don't see why you couldn't remove those sensors and replace with plugs.

the mk2 cars are a bit luckier, there are only two coolant sensor at the water neck and the fan itself is triggered by the ECU. no sensors in the radiator.

by the way, if you have already deleted your aircon, you can go ahead and remove the aircon fusebox as well. i would then cut the connector off the fusebox and create the jump using this small piece, so you will have a handy removable jumper that you can unplug later if needed. note that if you do this, be sure to power both fans from the right (starboard) side fan connector. the OEM fuse here will be OK because the fans will only start up once when you drive it (no cyclic on/off which draws higher current).

Thanks man great help!

Yep, the aircon fuse box has gone.

I woulda used your jump method you mentioned but I had already cut the wiring out too! lol so couldn't do that!

This is how it end up:

Small A/C fan > Is constantly on when ignition is

Large Fan > Turns on via a switch (should only need on hot days!) Fan turns on full whack, deleted the resistor it had!

Good thread, mines on a diet this winter ready for the Easter 1/4 mile, aircon and brakets/ pump are out, spoilers off.

Good idea with the rear wiper resovoir to front wipers, might do that myself as the bottle always has to come out when I`m working on the car it seems.

Nice one. What you aiming for in the 1/4's??

Yeah, that was somneones idea in this thread (or I read it somewhere on this site) about using the rear bottle!

Also gets the weight a bit better spread out. My car is so front heavy it's a joke!!

Progress is getting a bit slow now, when I get home from work it's now dark and freeeezing so need to go buy some flood lights or something!!

Still trying figure out the ABS problem, aint had a chance to check out the speed sensors yet.

OT- but does any one know if stuff like the G-sensor, steering angle sensor can cause the ABS light to come on?

My new manifolds should be here this week!

Few updates anyhow!

1)Got new Sparco steering wheel fitted

2) Centre console plate made from carbon fibre is like 95% done! Ordered way too much carbon fibre so have a lot left other trying think of uses for it in the car hehe

3) Pleased with how clean rthe engine has come out. (still have a lot of work in this dept!)

Pete your be happy I decided Im gonna pull the ETACS at some point! It annoys me how many goddamn wires connect to it when it does so little!

I already wired up the headlights and wipers up directly (still fused, no realys though, as I have hefty swtiches and wiring) so i thik etcas only controls central locking and windows now?

Not sure how to sort them out though!
