Default Robo-Mod the Lexans

Does anyone have a good plan for the exact step by step sanding process to efficently (not 12+ hours!!) remove the paint on the lexans after seperation (250-->500-->1000-->1500-->2000 sound good??). After I work my way up to the final wetsand and complete it is there any compounds to remove that white "haze." After wetsanding my headlights a year ago to try and get rid of some stains, I still see reminants of that white haze even after multile coats of meguiars plastic polish. Did I wetsand wrong? Any tips for proper sanding technique? I have access to a small vibration style hand-sander and a random orbital buffer. I also have a bench grinder which I can probabally get a polisher attachment.

Thanks for your help

No matter what you do, robo mod on lexans won't look good. If you want to do the robo mod, sell your lexans, buy glass headlights, and use those.

why wouldnt it look good if done right? most headlights these days are made of lexan, sand it out to 5000grit and then find a lexan polish, there are many on the market

This is what it will look like if you try to do it with the lexan covers:

If you think that looks better than stock then you're high.

that lexan could be polished out a lot more, it could be clear as glass

yeah, i think the problem is the Lexan's have that ridge where the interior plastic housing mated up to the cover. The Lexan is actually 2 thicknesses ..that circle you see in the pictures...that would take some serious sanding to eliminate it. However, as a heads up to anyone looking for glass. I did an online parts request, and recieved a few replies from yards w/ glass headlights. Got mine from knucklebusters in PA. $400 for the pair shipped..same as what everyone else wants. There was this place in chicago was out of control..it was like $600 for a set...told 'em no thanks.

Not trying to Thread Hi-jack but I just had a quick question on this subject. I'm looking to do the Robo mod soon as well. I know 94 headlights are glass but I heard somewhere that all 2g Stealth headlights (94-96?) were all glass? Is that true? if so I should be able to score a set pretty cheap locally because there is a stealth rt tt just sitting nearby.

I did robos on my 94 and I like them a lot. Not sure about the lexans.

These pics are old and since then I polished them and painted the metal rims or whatever you want to call them red because I had a small leak and they started oxidizing.

theres a trick thats been used for years in car audio when we sand an polish lexan an plastics is to actually torch it after the final wet sand not enough to leave scorch or senge mark. it actually take and smooths out the swirls in the lexan it a pain an i would try it on other items first if your a rook at it but it does work an i believe you can get them to look alot better than above not trying to dog yall but it just looks like yall got to a point an gave up. when i actually do a par this winter for my project car ill do a wright up an all that good stuff with pics an how i torch finished them
