why did you use sandpaper on all the metal parts?

You gotta sand down the metal so that the primer can stick to it, then you add paint which sticks to the primer.

how much metal is there inside?just those two rings? or more?...

I sanded the bracket (1/each side) and the light bulb housings (2/each). Actually took a loooong time to sand it down by hand, but it was my first time.
