Mitsubishi Keyless Trunk Release

Hello everyone.

All questions and comments applies to: 1995 3000GT VR4

My car is equipped with a factory 2-button keyless entry receiver and remote. (No trunk release)

(Remote)
FCC ID : E4EG8DA
DOC/MDC : 1814 K1010
OMRON G8D-281M-A

Everything works fine, but a few years ago the loop hole on the hub/casing where the key ring hooks to broke off. I have to carry the remote separately from the keys if I want to use the keyless entry. Months later I decided to stop carrying my remote just incase I lose it.

FAST FORWARD TO NOW......

Finally I had decided to buy a new remote. I found one on ebay, but someone beat me to it. Then I found another one on ebay. But this time it has three buttons (unlock, lock, and trunk) instead of two (no trunk) and the numbers in the back were off by one.

2-button
OMRON G8D-281M-A

3-button
OMRON G8D-282M-A

Thanks to 3si.org and the good people here, I found out that this remote should work on my receiver. AND IT DID!!!

Now, I am curious if I can install a trunk release into my car and will the receiver support it. There was a wire harness that went into the receiver, but didn't have anything connecting to the other end, which was pointing to the rear of the car. Could that be the attachment for the trunk release?

If anyone can help me on this, I thank you in advance.

if the alarm or keyless entry came stock with the two button remote mostly likely it doesnt have a 3rd channel. you would have to check out your models manual and see if theres a 3rd channel wire for the third button on the remote. sometimes there is. that would be a - wire and would need to be used with a relay with a trunk popping kit.

just looked at your post and you said its factory then i dont think it would. but not sure

If I can recall correctly, there is a rely, but not 100% sure. I will have to check again when I have time. Thanks for the info.

All 3s's have a manual (cable) trunk release. The third button on the remote is a "panic" button that triggers the alarm at will and was standard on later models. I also don't believe that the reciever can somehow be used to support a remote lock.

How sure are you with the third button being the PANIC button instead of the TRUNK release? The one I just bought says TRUNK, but do remember seeing some on ebay, or was it on other websites, where the third button says PANIC. I figured the third button was for the trunk since the FAQ's on this site said it was for the trunk. I also saw someone selling their original used '97 remote on ebay and the third button was marked TRUNK. But then again, he/she was from Canada so I don't know if the Canadian 3000GT/Stealths have a different setup than our USDMs.

There was never a keyless trunk release on a 3s unless it was added aftermarket. Only way you are going to get one to work is to add a popper and use a completely aftermarket set up

I haave thought about this too. I wonder if there is some kind of motor that when you supplied power to it would just pull on the cable, thus popping the hatch and then returning to its original position.

I looked into it, myself, not long ago. If it isn't already electrically activated, then you'd have to add an actuator setup to physically pull the lever/cable to release the trunk, and return it to the inactive position. All of the 3/S cars had the "manual pull" release.
