Question Gas Gauge

WTF?!?!?!? Yesterday my gas gauge was fine...Today its not.
It will go from 1/2 tank (which is what I have in my car) down to below empty, stay there for about 10 minutes, then go back to 1/4 tank, and then immediately goes back down to below empty again.
I don't know why it's doing it, and I don't understand why it keeps jumping around like it is...Anybody have any idea what it could be?

Thanks in advance,
Kaiti

Turn on your common sense. If it jumps on-off then there's probably a wire loose somewhere.

Well, a wire loose could have been it, but my gauge is now just constantly reading wrong. It says I have a little under 1/4 tank, when I just filled it. I'm pretty sure it's either the floater getting stuck, or the sending unit is bad. The gauge itself is working properly, it's just not getting the right information to display.

Well...I figured out what it was. My fuel pump wasn't fully hooked up, so it was sending fuel, but not information. It's fixed now.
Thanks for the help!
