This thread is an add-on to 3000SL95's DCC conversion for the differences in the SOHC models. In particular the '99 base model 3000GT (or older Stealth's with the SOHC maybe...not confirmed).
First off, I have to give props to Dave57. His conversion kit made this easy even for a first time converter like myself. All and all I think I put in about 6 hours but this is only due to a few differences between the '99 base models and just about every other model out there. So as this thread will not benefit many, at least it will be noted for those that may want to do this on a '99 base... The easiest way to do the conversion is through Dave57. He has devoted the time and effort to make it easy. It would have taken me so much longer to research, get the parts, etc. Dave sends all components with labeling and instructions. If this wasn't enough, he is really knowledgeable on the system's circuits and gives great tech support. Believe me, I know becasue it just so happens my car is different than all the other ones the DCC conversion has been performed on. So I used his knowledge as we traded e-mails back and forth. I believe Dave has a very fair price for everything. I guess this sounds liek a sales pitch but I never knew or interacted with Dave until buying this kit. I am just so happy with it that I had to share this. So enough about that, on with the techy stuff...most of the instructions from before in this thread: the how to on how to do the digital climate control conversion. (and everything Dave would give you is pretty much added to the thread above) is the basis of your conversion. However, for this model car the minor differences are there is no roof mounted place for the roof sensor nor a separate compressor controller with the C-40 connector. Its pretty easy to adjust to these changes now that the circuits have been looked at and analyzed by Dave57. I would add four adjustments to the original instructions: 1) when removing the cable system, I found it easier to extract the manual AC display/control unit before removing the center bracket. THis could be applied to any year/ any model when doing the conversion (I would think). It just allows you to get straight on to the screws. 2) for the roof sensor when you do not have a sunroof merely measure to find the middle of the headliner about 6 inches from the rear and trace a 1.25" x .5" rectangle (with the longer sides toward the front and rear of the car). This should give you a snug fit of the roof sensor. Route the wiring as normal (coat-hanger rule!) ***See first pic*** 3) the water temp sensor will be connected straight to the new harness since there is not connecotr for this already present behind the glove box. 4) since the compressor controller is not present you take the connections for the evaporator sensor and compressor control off of the box behind the glove box ***see 2nd pic*** The two yellow wires coming from the bottom are for the evap sensor and the Green-Yellow wire on the top of the unit is your compressor control lock-out signal. If you get the kit form Dave57, it is easy to see what wire to splice it into since it is also a Green-Yellow wire. ***See 3rd pic*** This is pretty much it for the differences. No need to repeat what has already been said. Feel free to contact me if you have any questions. |

Good job Dave, Thanks for the update and the pics of the slightly different SHOC system.
I did just find my 97 Mitsu disc, the 97 has the same circuit. So It would be safe to say that this difference exists in 97-99 3000 GT Base versions. Since the DCC now controls the AC, The compressor controller can be removed if desired. The 96+ compressor controller is different from the 95 -. 96+ PN MR218422 95- PN MB630456 With that being said a similar problem will exist in the 91-96 Stealth base (SOHC). Looking at the circuit The kit's C-40 green and yellow connection will go to the base's C-25 pin 6 (green and yellow) on the auto compressor controller plug. The auto compressor controller is removed in this conversion too. The 96 stealth may be similar to the 97-99 3000 base These differences exist because both of these SOHC's don't have an Air Conditioning Compressor Lock Controller.
