Thanks for backing me up. I have been around painting cars for 19 years. I am only 24 so that should tell you something. I myself have never painted one but have been involved in prep work on many.

So you are telling me the pearl white on a 3000gt is easier to do than a black?

Black is a walk in the park.

sure, if your smoking crack.

I know someone who does this professionally. He owns the paint store my brother works at. Most paint jobs he does run in the $3000 range and that is spraying it all, ie color change.

Anyway.................
So how much more does the color change add to the cost. For example, ny red VR4 paint is in pretty good shape but the nose is pretty chipped and the occasional minor ding here and there. If I had that redone vs changing the color would it go from say $3000 to $4500?
I thought the extra expense was largely due to having to do the jams, engine bay, trunk, and sunroof etc.
Also, would it be cheaper to just go to a different shade (darker) of red?

If you didnt mind having a different shade red in your jams than the rest of the car then yes it will be cheaper.

I've been around hot rods all my life, and it takes a lot of balls to paint one black, because the body has to be absolutely perfect, and 99% of the time it looks like shit. But I'm brainwashed I guess My dad's best friend has been painting high dollar street rods and bikes for years, and he absolutely hates painting black.

White is by far the easiest color to paint, with black by far the hardest to paint. There is no debate necessary, that is 100% fact.
