I really don't think there's anyway you can take someones car without a title or something that shows you got it from them without it being illegal. You could take it remove all the vin numbers and swap vin # from a junkyard 3s to atleast register it but that'd be pretty hard to get by the DMV on. Not wise but w/e.

wait hows that gunna work without the title. my friends shop is goin thru the same thing the owner just left the car for close to a year now, they would want to sell it but dunt kno hwo to go about it the legal way
I seen that happen before... people leave cars at shops for years and never come back... those cars can by law be sold. The owner of the shop needs to call the police and do a report. With that they can go to a lawyer, then court, after that dmv.

both the police and dmv will try to contact the owner to let them know they need to get the car out (after paying of course for storage fees and the work done). The owner now has X amount of days to get the car out before it is passed down to the shop owner.

It is perfectly legal... but its not something that happens overnight... it takes a while... months sometimes.

This is what happened with the car I just bought. Title takes 4-6 weeks to get.

It is called a garage keeper or abandoned vehicle lien. It takes some work but it can be done.
