OK, so yesterday I thought to myself wouldn't it be cool if I didnt have to pay someone else to shine up my engine bay. Then I thought tomyself maybe I should try to do it on my own.
I read a decent amount of info on a site that sells tons of different electroplating kits. It seems fairly straight forward and not too expensive. Still gotta look into it more but is anyone interested in going halves on a decent kit? We could make all our stuff shiney isn't that the goal?! Seriously though if any 3snjers are interested in going halves on a nice kit or something let me know we can talk about it. If not i'll prob end up getting one for myself eventually.

haha sweet..., where are you located... don't think i've ever seen you on here?
I've been reading a couple things and there's some videos on how to do it on this website the cheapest kit is like 600 bucks and requires special shipping so it's not gonna be cheap so i'm still trying to find a cheaper alternative. Not looking for something huge I mean the largest thing i'm gonna want chromed will be the valve cover and intake plenum. I figure if someone split a kit with me for 150 like a 300 kit it'd be cheaper than sending everything out to be polished by 3sx or wherever. There's some that are cheaper and really cheap but we just need to make sure it's actually going to work for our parts. |

I think you are greatly underestimating the time and effort to do a quality chrome plating. It is very labor intensive and the purchase, use and disposal of the caustic chemicals required is more than most people want to deal with!

I'm not just gonna go get something because I can which is why i'm trying to find out a bit more about it. I had thought about having everything permastared which is NOT cheap but looks insane. Then I thought maybe I could just polish it on my own. It's a bitch just to polish some of the parts but I figure if i'm gonna take the time to make it look good I wanna make it look REAL good.
Didn't mean to make it seem like i'm just gonna go out and get it and do it in a day but if anyone knows more about it please do tell. |
