I happened to be near a TigerDirect outlet store and bought an IOgear USB-to-Serial adapter. I chose this brand because I read on here that it works great.
Anyways, I have been futzing with the settings in device manager (XP Pro). I tried all sorts of baud rates...flow control settings...etc... I can sometimes get readings to show up in Tunerstein or TMO or an emulated version of MMcD. But...some values don't show up. RPM, for example, is always stuck at either 725 rpm or 7250 rpm.
I know I made a recent post touching on this issue, but now I know I have a known good cable. Can anyone offer any help? Perhaps to try HHH or a different logger?
Thanks in advance....

Ok, searched more and I did find posts with settings regarding my question, but they do not work either.
The bitch of the whole thing is that logging works on my old-ass Sony Vaio with a serial port. I have since installed an AC inverter (battery on the Vaio is shot) so I CAN log, but I'd rather do it with my Dell 9" Mini than my 15" Vaio. I did mimic the port settings from the working Vaio com port to the USB-Serial dongle with no luck.
The brand of my adapter is IO Gear. I thought I had read that this one works, and when I visited my friend in Naperville I picked one up at Tiger Direct, but that's 1.5 hours away. I bet I can return it online, maybe, but what is next...try a Belkin adapter? I am clueless now, but hey, at least the Vaio works....
That sucks, another $25. Oh well, in reality I guess I do need two of these little guys. As long as the IO Gear one works with my wideband from Innovate, then the Keyspan can serve my other logging needs.
Both products boast the 230kbps bit rate. Like I said, I am an IT guy, and I have had a few guys at work try to get this thing going.
Bahh....maybe I'll just do a car pc. I can get the hard drive and ram for free, most likely, would drive down the cost quite a bit + cool factor.
Thanks for the help, and if anyone has an IO Gear adapter that is working, please let me know how you did it!

You could just get a Palm-to-Serial hotsync cable. They work great, I got one from amazon.com. I was thinking just like you, how to get USB to serial... When you consider that maybe one USB-to-serial cable works, but ALL the palm-to-serial cables work, it's a no-brainer .

It's not a problem with the high 230k or whatever data rate.
It's that it doesn't support non-standard data rates, like 1953 baud (what the OBDI ecu uses...IIRC).
