Default OBD1 datalogging

I'm looking for an OBD1 cable. I've found some that connect to serial ports on computers, but I don't have a serial port on my computer. I've read that they don't work with Serial to USB converters. Is this true? Also, if you guys know where I can get a fairly cheap cable, let me know.

They won't work with the cheap converters but the ones
in the $30 price range usually work. Keyspan and Belkin
are the brands to look for ...

I have a cable that I purchased for my 1992 VR-4 that I am not using since I purchased my palm datalogger. It has the serial port and OBDI connector. PM me if you would be interested.

I picked up a high quality Odb1 datalogging cable with the actual plug at the end and I am using a hot sync to Serial Adapter for my palm M500, but for some reason I am not getting any signal at all to my data logger, it just says Comm error when I try the diagnostic,

Anyone have any suggestions?

Comm error means your not connected. I would check the connectors, wiggle them and see if it changes. Not sure but I would recommend to turn on the ignition first and then turn on the palm and then MMcd program. If you start the MMcd first and then turn on the car it might not read because it thinks the car is off. Not sure on the settings in the MMcd program, you might have to change one of the settings to get it to read. Not sure if I'm much help.

You need either a palm cradle with a serial connection that plugs into the cable, or you need a palm serial cable. The serial cables are preferred as a palm will fall out of the cradle when you're driving.

Get it off of ebay or a PDA parts store.

I figured id post here instead of making a new thread.

I have a palm m100. Ive downloaded mmcd and the actual palm sync program. When I try to put mmcd's folders on my hand held it says "incompatible card files". The only thing it lets me add on there are the example templates/logs that come with the program.

any ideas?
