Tach signal problems probably require a resistor on one of the wires in order to get proper voltage to go to whatever has the highest demand but maybe not. Most of the problems I have heard though have been backwards, where the ECU gets too much voltage and the tachometer lags behind or doesnt even work because the ECU is hogging all the voltage.

I have my car apart sort of and I am having a friend add a jumper on my MSII board so i can run direct coil (sohc = distributor ).
Going to grab an extra engine bay wiring harness and then just cut out all the extra wires and make a harness that I can tap my MSII signals into for relays and tach output etc.

Are you 3/S dohc guys running Ford EDIS or do you have a way to use the stock ignition setup? From Keithmacs post it sounds like "not yet."

To run a sohc motor, all you need to do is run the the distributor ground wire to the megasquirt, wire up batch fire injectors, and hook up the relays/sensor. Super easy!!! if you are familiar with the wiring.

I ran a pull up resistor setup on my VW dizzy (hall sender), the sender pulls down the voltage to trigger the MS, got a very solid tach signal that way.

I`ve been mulling over it for fuel and Water Injection control with boost limiting, got pretty good at coding the MS1`s for the simple stuff. You can run full time closed loop o2 correction with a target table and it works very well.

Heven`t heard anyone`s managed to decode the CAS signal to run sparks, but someone may have by now?.
you should be able to make something run off of the cam gear if you wanted to do timing, does it support our crank signal?

A guy on our forum got his 24v sohc 6g72 (from an eclipse but installed in a shadow) running on megasquirt using Ford EDIS yesterday.
No need to translate any signals from the stock sensors.

I can tell you I have tried and tried to get a good tach signal for my MSII on a V3 board. Every source I found using my wiring manual either didn't give a signal that MS could recognize, or I got one that was only about 75% of what my tach and SAFC were displaying. I gave up and ordered a trigger wheel from triggerwheels.com along with all of the associated EDIS6 stuff. I've already ghetto fabricated a mount for the VR sensor, but I just need to get around welding the wheel onto my crank pulley. If anyone figures out how to use the existing wiring and sensors, I'm all ears.

im gonna bump this. I cant believe there is no guide on how to install Megasquirt on 3Si yet..

all engine problems are related to crappy stock ECU , no secret there.

There was someone on the MS forums that was part way through decoding the stock CAS wheel off a 1st gen for the MS1, then he seemed to just dissapear off the forum?.

MS2 has native AIC coil control, may be a better bet if you`re going full control from the MS ecu, if not the Hi-Res-Extra code on MS1 boards works a treat for fuel.
