Sound like you a had a ground loop issue. I hope you didn't use "signal ground" from the ECU.

Anyhow try this:
Use the same +12volts that powers up the ECU to power up your AEM WB. For ground, use the bolt that grounds the ECU case. This measure should minimize any ground loop.
