Default installing aem ems

I picked up a used unit and had AEM go through it and was going to have Ray P install it and tune it but recent money issues have changed that and I would like to install it myself.

Here are my questions

#1 I want to use speed density so where should I locate the aem ait sensor and the aem 5 bar map sensor? I also have a aem boost sensor that would need to be installed also.

#2 Is the aem base map decent enough to start the car to rough tune with?

#3 With very limited knowledge of tuning am I going to kill my car worse with the ems than I currently am running an apexi neo?

Any help would be welcomed.

Default Re: installing aem ems

1. I located my AIT in the Y pipe prior to the throttle and the map sensor in the driver side rear of the intake manifold.

2. Car eventually started, but I found the base map to be overly rich.

3. With limited knowledge you really need to find an experienced AEM tuner. Beside the Map, the number of possible settings on the AEM can be mind boggling and just one adjustment can make a big difference on how the car runs. In addition, every car combination is different and I found other peoples maps, even with similar set-ups, worked poorly on my car. You should plan on around 3+ hours of dyno time with a tuner to get you car right. Once you get the basic tune set then minor tweaking is pretty straight forward.

Yea I figured 3 hours of dyno time to get it tuned properly but I have a 2.5 hour drive to rays P. to get it tuned. so i was hopeing to have it installed and driveable.

Mabey i will install all the sensors and just switch the ems over once I get there.

You did not mention it, but a wideband is mandatory for a speed density set-up.
