I could not get good drivability out of it, starting the car shouldn't have to be a challenge. Ocassionally my idle would freak out and stall out the engine and I'm faced with the challenge of starting the car again. After a few months of tuning and letting a professional work on it, I gave up on it. Sure there's some good benefits of the AEM EMS, but suddenly drivability became more important to me. I was much happier with the blue emanage+good drivability that when I switched back I upgraded to the newer emanage.

A local 3Si'er stopped by for a visit and when he was ready to go home his AEM EMS setup refused to start. After spending several hours trying to get him running again we gave up and I drove him home leaving his car behind. It's unexpected surprises likes this ate away my confidence in trusting the AEM EMS. Different model 3S year cars seem to have an impact on the AEM EMS. For instance adding 10 degrees more timing at start made the 94 car start sooner, but made no difference to my 93 (we tried hundreds of different combinations to make my car start better with no improvement). Now that I think about it more the 1311 MAF 91-93 MAP that AEM provides should perhaps not include the 93. The 93 shares similar CAS components to the 94+ cars and should really be tweaked accordingly. Idle was stable on the 94 AEM EMS car but not on the 93 AEM EMS car. We later discovered the 94 car had a defective ISC and thus the AEM EMS couldn't adjust idle on it. I truely wanted to keep my AEM EMS as I loved the software interface and all but I was beginning to long for good drivability that I used to have with a piggyback. |
