I think what I would do for knock monitoring would be to use either a GaugeTech or the AEM Serial Gauge and set a warning when KnockFuel or KnockRetard are greater than a certain value. That way you'll get the warning to be set for long enough where you'll realize that you got knock at some point.

It may be that you can configure the low-speed (LS) output that's tied to the Check Engine light to a function (Alt Switch?) that would turn it on under the same conditions as above - but I haven't looked into trying to do that. I personally use the GaugeTech display for my monitoring when I don't have the laptop in the car.

oh, one more quick question, how many of you bought the wiring harness from 3sx (or another source, but 3sx is the only one I know of). Jut wondering how hard it would be to do w/o becuase at 3sx the harness is $210 I believe. Or do I even need a harness. I know that aem touts this unit as plug and play, but they usually don't mean it's true plug and play (i.e. just use the stock wiring completely), am I wrong here?

It is totally plug and play from a wiring perspective....

Unplug the stock ECU, plug in the EMS and you don't really have to make any wiring changes. If you have Active Exhaust on your car, you will need to cut the power wire that goes to the AE motor. Other than that, you can run totally stock wiring.

However, you'll probably want to use a MAP and AIT sensor in place of the factory MAF meter - so that's a bit of minor wiring change under the hood. Then you'll probably want to also use Wideband O2 sensor(s), so you just wire their controller box in place of the stock O2 sensors to the ECU harness near the ECU.

You don't need the splice harness from 3SX, but it may make life a little easier for you. In my opinion, it isn't worth the money.

thx, that's the answer I was looking for! And yeah, I'm also buying iat, 5 bar map, dual chanell wb02, boost solenoid etc. I've done some searching in this thread and I'm pretty sure that everything that I need to know in order to hook all those up have only been explained 10000 x's b/4, so I hopefully won't have a problem. Thx for all your help.

OK my AEM EMS system is on it way, I should get it this Tuesday. this is the ideal that i have come up with. i am going to keep the stock injector in my car till I ship/drive it to IPS to get them to tune it. does any one have a map that I can use just to get me going? I will have the DR 650 on my car but I will keep the boost at 10 to 12psi. I would like to play with the program before I go get it to tune, so I can have some sort of ideal of what is going on. this is my setup AEM EMS, AEM 3.5 bar map sensor, AEM IAT sensor AEM wideband. (i do not know if it is the duel or not i got it from IPS) it was 1850 shiped. let me know what you think, and if you have a map that i can use. my mod are in my signature.
my e-mail add is Jerry415500@aol.com

Thanks Jerry

Keep your stock ECU in there and have IPS install and tune the AEM for you with the new injectors.

I agree.
I would also check out the manual. You can play with demo software on your labtop to get more familiar with the EMS and its functions.
