So you "T" off the signal line to the ems to your tach?

Thank you both for your replies... does anyone else have a solution to the tach issue?

There is no wire splicing involved. When you plug in your AEM, as far as the tach is concerned, it is the stock ECU.

So I am pulling the tach signal from an output of the aem to the cluster. I will have to track down which wire this is on the harness.

The reason I am asking, is because I have an aftermarket tach.

Thanks for the information, BAdazZV8. =)

Nope, that's not quite right. The stock tach signal doesn't come from the ECU at all. The tach signal comes from the PTU - that little box in the engine bay under the ignition coils.

how does the AEM EMS guage and control boost levels?..

i'm curious because i've had boost issues in the past and i'm not sure whether or not the EMS will solve the problem..

basically, after i did the "free boost mod" on my car i eventually couldnt get any more than 7~ psi (according to my guage.. which is just the Blitz turbo timer/boost gauge combo).. this led me to believe that my boost solnoid went bad so i decided to "bypass" it and install a MBC.. i installed a Hallman Pro and (according to my guage) i'm now overboosting..

both the turbo timer/guage and MBC are hooked up correctly.. so either i have a defective MBC (which i doubt), a bad boost solnoid (which is very possible), or my current boost guage is inaccurate (which i doubt but is probable)..

so my concern is exactly how does the AEM control boost and how does it guage boost.. i'll be installing the full AEM system later this week and i have the AEM universal EMS guages aswell..

i'm also going to uninstall the MBC and return the car to a stock set-up before the AEM is installed.. so depending on how my boost is acting when i return it to stock should give me a better idea on what's not working correctly.. i just wanted to get a heads-up on how the AEM may or may not solve my issue..

Personally, I would look for vacum leaks on your wastegate lines first if you are overboosting with your MBC.

i hadn't pressure tested the system or anything but the lines certainly look to be in good condition and working order..

i'll have a better idea once i uninstall the MBC and return it back to stock.. if i start back underboosting, then i figure its safe to say its a bad solenoid..

it doesnt really matter now tho.. i did some more searching on the site and i found that the AEM uses the boost solenoid to control boost and some folks think its best to get an aftermarket boost solenoid to better allow the AEM to control boost..

so it looks like buying an aftermarket boost solenoid is my next move before i install the AEM.. any suggestions on brand/type?.. in my research i saw mention of an Apexi aftermarket boost solenoid working well with the AEM..

also, i've read that installing an EBC can solve the underboosting issues of a defecting boost solenoid.. is this still true with the AEM EMS?.. it doesnt seem accurate since i've read that the AEM uses the solenoid to control boost..

I reallly think you are debugging your overboost/underboost problem the wrong way... there are easier ways of determining the root cause of your problem with out all this swapping in and out of boost controlers. PM me if you want more details, as this it is not really relavant to this thread.
