I would think those prices are more than reasonable, if not a little low. Just staying in detroit I don't think you will get to many bites on your offer though.... regardless good luck!

Offer tuning consults by receiveing customer's data logs and their current workmap ( referring to AEM EMS) by email, where you could do the spreadsheet analysis to see where the timing is falling off in relation to torque and vehicle speed, relationship of AFR's to load values and EGT's, etc. Charge a flat fee for "smoothing out the customer's car's running and setting up the correct Injector Advance table, etc.

would suggest more along the lines of $50 per hour minimum of 2 hours, this is if you are good, hell you have to figure to get a "pro" tune is a minimum of $1000 plus air-fair
there is nothing wrong with charging for your services as long as the service you provide is top notch ![]() |

i like the idea of the email tuning since i do a ton of it now for free but i wouldnt know what to charge and i would almost feel bad tuning people cars for money without ever even being near them, so maybe $75 flat rate for email fixes since it really doesnt take that long. and $35 an hour for coming to the person, i dont mind traveling further but i would have to charge something to drive that far whats fair like .50 a mile? $1 a mile? i dont really know
i appreiciate any comments id like to have a good idea of what im charging/offering before i go on other forums and offer the service |

Do you have a resume of vehicles that you've tuned and before/after results or something like that? I think you may have a difficult time charging for the service unless you are able to show results.
I'm not trying to say anything bad about your tuning or anything like that - just saying that for a service like what you propose you need lots of satisfied customers giving referrals or some dyno sheets or something to provide proof that you know what you are doing.

i have dyno sheets and before and afters unfourtunatly they are only of 3 FSAE cars and 1 SAE snowmobile, one was on a motec M4 one was an M800 and the other 2 were PE-LTD and Walbro.... i do however have at least 35 people from forums that i have done email tuning that they are more than happy with and i have done for free maybe i could get some feedback from all the guys ive helped?
one of those FSAE cars made 97hp at the crank which is a TON of power for fsae |

i have hundreds of before and after logs lol, but i figure ill charge a relativly cheap price as an alternative to ridiculously priced pro tunere when i dont see how they could be that much better, theres only so many options and tricks... especially with the AEM

Well, if you dont mind could get get a nice base map for my car? Tell me a price and I can send it to you.
The only thing i am worried about it that i am doing this on a JDM swap, only has one 02 sensor. I am guessing that the other wiring is the same as an american spec harness. Its a 91 Walbro fuel pump 9b's 550cc injectors FMIC AEM map sensor 3.5 bar PLX wideband Thats about all i can think of Thankx, Brian |

You will need to dial down the fuel map by about 3% and adjust the typical Idle% vs.Coolant temp Table. This Map had the Idle biss screw turned all the way in so the Idle % vs. temp table needed higher values then the base map from AEM. And of course you still need to check mark the Sensors menu for all of your exact sensors used. This workmap uses the GM 3 Bar MAP and GM AIT. This workmap's Boost Comp Table is used for rows of zero boost and higher, only. Timing is still conservative on it for boost but tuned well for cruise and mpg. This will get you to 16 psi safely. Remember to first re-do the timing wizard if you use the whole workmap vs. copying fuel and timing maps alone. This workmap was tuned during a thousand miles driving on the street and highways for better then stock drivability and up to 16 psi of boost. Send an email to me at mehlof@comcast.net |
