I am running stock TT heads, with street grind cams. Wondering if stock heads don't like the cams.

I was under the impression that upgraded valve springs were mandatory for any cam upgrade.

I do have 3rd gen lifters and 3SX hi rev spring kit. I am thinking maybe the stock heads don't like the street cams. But not sure this early in the game. |

I've got DR's street cams in my Spyder and don't get that much noise on top.
I was thinking that if you still had stock springs maybe they weren't strong enough to keep the rocker against the cam lobes and were floating a bit which may cause noise. Since you've got upgraded springs that shouldn't be the case. Over the years I kind of wondered if the 3rd gen lifters with the larger top hole might bleed down easier than the earlier lifters, but I have no data that would support that idea. |

The top end was noisy from the first startup. Like lots of bad lifters. And it didn't go away when warm or after lots of run time.
I got the 3rd gen lifters from a parts car I parted out. I pulled the valve covers yesterday and noticed lots of the rockers were loose. Pulled the lifters and found they were the SHORT ones and a few would not fully prime, compressable by hand. Replaced with new set of 3SX 3rd gen lifters I primed in oil. Started up and was quiet as a mouse. Finally. I thought something was broke from day one. Now she is smooth. Did a boost leak check. Found my Old used up turboXS BOV typeH was leaking like a pasta strainer. Replaced it. Found the TB shaft was leaking so bad at 10psi I could feel the air rushing out. Rebuilt it. The old seals crumbled during the rebuild. Now she holds pressure. Getting some rough tuning done on her. 20-22psi so far, lots left in a pair of 5027s. Not to sure about the street cams in stock heads yet. Not doing too bad so far and on the street it's the most entertaining street 3S I have driven. Fun stuff. Drove maTT around in it, made him giggle like a girl. Power drops off up top due to the boost spike at the start of the run then it really settles down about 2-4psi. Using Profecb SpecII. So far no knock on these runs. So a little more timing can be thrown in it. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Change your afr units to Gasoline, looks like it is something else. Is the stat sync off while you were cranking the car over? If so that is why it won't start. It needs to be ON when cranking. When it sees the CAS, or cam/crank sensors signal it will turn from off to on. |

For you guys running low 20's for boost, what does your timing curve look like? I'm looking for timing when boost first peaks, and your max timing.
