How does this cal look? I am trying to keep timing conservative up top at high boost and high rpm until I get some runs out of it.

denso 720s
AEM 3.5 bar
single WB using O2 #1 input
large twins
8.5:1 all fully built motor including heads 1mm/2mm valves

ok, had a few timing spots out of wack, changed it.

i'm mainly asking 'cause in the AEMPro users manual => Boost control section, it shows the "T"d wastegate and turbo pressure vacuum lines going into the opposite side of the solenoid than shown in the above picture.. it also shows no vacuum hose connected to the other side.. granted, the manual says the diagram is a "general" setup..

so for clarification:

the hose on the left side of the above pic is the input..

the hose on the right side is the outlet..

and the nipple under the gray foam is the vent..

correct?..

Im not sure what youre looking at, but a "T" shouldnt be going to both the pressure source and the wastegates, then youd be bleeding off boost with your wastegates instead of not making boost, which in the end the turbo would win that contest i think. Unless youre referring to a wastegate setup that has a "vacuum chamber" in which boost pressure is used to help keep the gates closed, similar to what is available on the greddy type-s. I cant figure why they would show the other side not hooked up, unless they were just going by spring pressure.... or something....Anyways the above pic is correct, and the "T" is going to the 2 WG mounted on the turbos, unless you have a diff solenoid or diff turbo setup you should be setting it up like the pic.

yea, i 'preciate it..

that set-up didnt look right to me either but i figured i'd follow the diagram.. and as you said, it didnt work.. i went ahead and just connected the ouptut directly to the wastgates (which only makes sense) and it worked fine..

i still couldnt get my boost control to work with the AEM though.. tried everything.. i think i may have a bad solenoid.. i'll find out for sure once i get a new one later this week..

still cant seem to get the boost control to work with the AEM.. firstly, i just want to make sure my settings are correct..

on the Boost WG base duty map, is max boost made with 0% (10.2%) or 100% (85.2%) duty on our cars?..

should the boost wg invert option be turned on or off?..

i cant figure out why it isnt working.. here's some background info:

* i have a brand new gm boost solenoid
* i have these selected options turned ON: boost wg output, boost wg feedback, boost FB VSS, and boost FB on error
* i'm trying to use VSS boost control and i have the boost target speed table set to 9 psi for starters
* i have the boost target comp table set to 0..
* i cant get anything beyond wg pressure (5~6 psi) regardless of trying to set the entire boost wg base duty map to both 0% duty and 100% duty.. plus i've tried the wg invert option turned both on and off..

KISS... turn off VSS and FB options to start with, its just more variables to interfere while tuning. Try the aem forums if youre having problems, its probably there... Also VSS boost isnt really needed since were AWD, the feature is mostly for traction limited 2WD cars.

when does it actually try to achieve the target boost.

you set your target boost to be based on VSS, RPM-TH or switch. when does it actually try to achieve the boost? for example, if I have my boost target set to 15psi for under 80mph and 24psi for above does that mean when I a cruising on the street at 35mph it is going to try and boost? to 15psi?? I am missing something fundemental.

kind of off question, my motor is being rebuilt and I have the AEM ready to install, along with 3.5bar MAP, AIT sensor, and AEM standalone Wideband O2 gauge. Now I dont have the stock injectors, how should I break this motor in? I have DR650's w/MBC, 720cc's, MAFT 2.0 & SAFC combo setup on it now. Should I install AEM get a good base map with conservative timing and lower boost and break in from there. Or use old setup without being able to see knock or control timing on my 96TT.

NOTE: the tuning is being done by someone with AEM experience and a Dyno, just not too much experience with the 3/s platform....

what should I do?

Hrm... that question really could go either way.

I recommend using a stock setup to break-in a motor if you don't have a solid basemap to work with. As far as the possibility of using the AEM EMS on a brand new motor... I don't see why not. It is 100% dependent on the tuner to be honest. EMS 'experience' really does waver quite a bit, I've seen some really 'crap' jobs by people that say they are 'EMS experts' (Not this board in particular... I'm just talking about in general).

Just two questions...
1. Why an MBC? You could run a GM boost solenoid and have the EMS handle the boost.
2. How hard would it be to get some stock parts to break-in the motor, do you even see this as an option?
