The "demo" software is just the actual software that comes with the EMS. You can download if from the AEM forum or install it from the CD that came with the EMS. You can open up one of the "Startup Calibrations" and then mess around with it and save as something else. It will help you learn your way around the software.

Good luck,

Dan

What's up guys, glad I finally get to join the club

Few questions...

I'm on a FULL buildup of the engine, everything is new and I need to break the thing in. I'm hesitant to break it in with the AEM and not be able to seat the rings properly if the tune is so far off the first time I start it up. Anyone ever do this and successfully get their engine broken in off a basemap?

I have way too many mods to probably even attempt to hook back up the stock ecu and computer and have it try to run, but if that is my only option for safety, I might have to give it a try.

Also, does anyone have a map/basefile for a car with:

880cc or 1000cc injectors (I'm probably going with 1000cc, but 880cc if there is no 1000cc)
5 bar MAP
GM IAT
fully built motor (probably doesn't matter much, but my comp ratio is diff, so timing has to be taken into account)
top end fully built (cams, springs etc, but again, probably doesn't matter much)
GT42 turbo (but any big set of twins should have similar fueling needs)

I will be running c16 most of the time, but I would like a pump gas map to get her started and broken in. I will take a c16 map if that is all anyone has for this size injectors etc.

Thanks,

Chris

is the v1.19 as bad as people are saying?.. i have the AEM serial guages and apparentlly you have to have v1.19 in order for them to work..

kinda scary since i'm new to the system and it's going to make it that much more difficult if i'm forced to use an unstable version in order to have my guages funtional.. from what i understand most peeps are still running v1.11 since v1.19 is so screwed..

what issues can i expect from the v1.19?..

Chris,
I wouldn't take the chance if I were you. Too many things that could go wrong and the last thing you want is a bunch of fuel in your oil. If you are going to try anyway, I'd get an EMS tuner to be there to help get things sorted out before you crank it over. If you don't want to rewire quite as much, you could try something like the maft translator pro, which can also use the aem map sensor and ait sensors. I have one sitting here that I was going to use for the same purpose but never got around to. Now that the EMS is running well on my car (well, was before I blew it up) I'll probably never use the pro. Regardless, good luck. I assume this means you have the turbo plumbing done and such? Cool beans!

Wayne
ps. Ben is good. If you fly him out to help you, he'd probably help you for free

If you want to break in using the EMS, your best bet is to find someone else's map who's using the same injectors that you are, and the same MAP/MAF. The fuel and spark curves don't need to be perfect; just close. Make sure you turn off O2 feedback.

You only need to run wastegate boost to break in the motor, which gives you more margin for error in the tune before you have knock problems. Really, the tune doesn't have to be perfect, just close enough so that you're not stumbling rich or stumbling lean. The important thing is to get WOT pulls, and engine braking coastdowns to seat the rings.
