A Matte finish does not have a shine. If it does shine, then the Matte finish is rubbing away. Pearlescent does not make a Matte finish "shine"; it just makes the finish look cooler and more expensive. Since you don't like the statement "dull in appearance", then how about, Flat In Appearance.

Matte: the property of having little or no contrast; not reflecting light; not glossy

In other words...DULL or FLAT.

Matte does not have a glossy shine but it certainly does have a dull shine. Like all objects, an object with a matte finish will reflect light. Look at the car in my sig. That's matte. The part on the top that's almost white, that's really the sun reflecting off the paint and making it 'shine' so to say.

Satin, I believe, is the different finish that contrasts with Matte by exhibiting a much more 'pealescent' shine. At least according to my own satin & matte paint.

Anyway.

Ok, I am pulling out the white flag. I give up. I wasn't trying to argue with Stealthee. It was an interesting discussion though. Reflecting, Dull, Shiny, Flat...whatever, I am still getting one of these paint jobs within the year, I hope.

I've always liked the Matte finish and when I saw Lawdogg's car that was my decision maker on getting it done on my car. I love that blue finish though.

Here is a question for Lawdogg: I was also reading on the net...apparently this Matte finish has a couple of flaws. I guess you can't touch it with your hands; it leaves an oil mark, kind of like touching a stainless steel odject. If this is true then you will be cleaning it constantly. Has anyone else seen anything on this?

Hey man! Our discussion does sound a bit 'semantical' LOL!! But it's all good.

The matte, well my matte at least, certainly seems to conform to those flaws. If oil gets on it, it'll leave a mark. That means finger / body oil, tire shine, etc. It also doesn't like bug guts, so it's probably wise to get those bugs off at some point after driving it through a humid evening. But it will all wash off, and a sponge won't scratch it like some people think.

I'll post more updates as I find more quirks with it, but I haven't had a chance to drive it much since I finished it. First the alternator went out, then it got rear-ended. Ugh!!

Hey thanks man. I actually got one and it's installed along with the A/C, tensioner, and idler delete. I appreciate the offer though!
