I don't think these guys have a problem helping someone out when they geniunely want to learn, its those people who are both ignorant and arrogant. I know I have dealt with plenty of them myself. People get called stupid and get ignored all the time on here, I know I have started a few threads were I asked a question that never really got answered.

You have to remember when you ask somebody something you need to have a certain amount of humbleness to it. There is a reason you are asking them, and telling the person they are wrong right after you ask them for help isn't gonna make them wanna treat you with alot of respect. The people with the answers had to work to find those answers, either from doing it the wrong way the first time, paying attention to the people doing it the right way, or spending alot of time researching. And I'm sure they are all grateful for the help and answers they got along the way. But they aren't gonna be to quick to hand out all their wisdom to somebody acting like they already know it all. And you might be confusing that "elitist attitude" with pride. You have to walk the walk before you can talk the talk. The people who have already walked the walk have a hard time dealing with ignorant people talking when they are just standing there with their hands in their pockets.

One time a few months back I was coming out of a store when some kid in a Cobra was driving by. He was obviously bored or something, but he pulled up alongside me and asked if he could bum a cigarette. I said "sure" and gave him one and I was talking to him for a few minutes telling him about my friend's Cobra and giving him some specs about it.
Out of nowhere, he looks at my Saturn and says, "Hey it looks like you take pretty good care of your car man. It's nice and clean. You ever race it?"
I said, "Only against yellow lights."
He replied, "Yeah...I bet my Cobra would tear the shit out of it in a race."
I just gave him a look and said, "Dude, this thing pulls barely 100 HP at the crank. I'm surprised it moves when it's got five people in it."

Not really a 'n00b' kind of thing, but it's like what the hell? Of course a Cobra would beat a Saturn SL1. At that point it became apparent to me that he was probably in his dad's weekend toy and wanted to show off to somebody.

Oh, and that video was hilarious. Turbo rotary Mustang GTR?

that is a noob fo sure.
Quite a few newer cars can be "chipped" for pretty significant performance gains. Particularly Audis and Volkswagens.

When I come across one I tell them that the vr4 is a v6 1st then further on discussion let them know the vr4 stands for v6, rotary with 4 pistons.

If they can process that with any scrutiny, I know they are atleast somewhat competent.

You bragged about "smashing" a Cavalier in your NA. I thought that was pretty funny, does that count?

a friend of mine insists that he can put a dump valve on his non turbo fuel injected car (well you can but it won;t do squat). i just nod and smile - met up with some fellow gto owners at the weekend at a rwub and they all seemed to know their s#it so maybe 3s's indicate a higher IQ?
