Question window/door lock switch garnish removal

I am having my car painted and would like to paint the hard plastic interior pieces to match. most are easy to pull off, but the garnish around the window switches/door locks have black press on lock washers. Any suggestions on getting them off? Or do i just cut them off and buy replacements?

Has no one removed the plastic around the window switches?

I started to take mine off to do the same thing, but the little plastic pieces the washers hold on to started to break. So I'd suggest either say fuck it and break them off and guerilla glue it back together (which I may do) or buy new ones and paint those. Glueing would be cheaper and since it's on the backside, no one would know/see/care.

The other thing I was trying was sliding paper behind them around the edges to spray them in place. Didn't do it though, just test fit torn paper and stared at if for a few days (panels were off, sitting in my room). Any way you do it- take'em off, break'em off, paint them in place . . . all have plusses and minuses I guess.
