Will a 2g shifter work on a 1g?
I want the shorter shifter and was wondering if the 2g shifter ass. will fit on my 1g tranny?

You can make it work but the cables are different lengths

Yes it works. You leave the base of the shifter on your car and you swap the actual stick part.
So in recap: You use the stock 1G shifter base. You use the stock 2G rod thinger.

uh, u do need the 2G shifter plate to go with the shifter. I found this out when the 2G shifters I had would not clear my 91 plate on the floor.. Or you could cut your 1st gen plate to get it to fit

I tried to put a 3nd gen shifter in my 92. It hits the late. We compared the shifters and the 2g has more metal below the lower pin. I think a few minutes with and angle grinder will correct the issue.

I bolted in a '98 shifter and plate assembly into my '92 VR-4 and had no issues at all. I didn't even have to adjust the cables.
