HAHAHA that does suck my friends. And to think that I was just about to come on here and brag about how my local speed limits got bumped up from 55 to 70, and 45 to 50. Sorry to hear about your luck

The last time I was in VA, I was moving along with interstate traffic at 90. A cop flew up on me, which freaked me out, but he sped right on around... Maybe this isn't the norm, and it was a few years ago, but I thought it rather amusing for appeared to be a hardassed state. At least my weapons permit was valid, I thought..

Two years ago I was offered a job in Alexandria... decided that I couldn't afford to live in northern VA. I spent most of the 1980's in MD and at that time worked for companies in MD and VA; it was a nice area. I'm glad that I decided not to move two years ago!

This shit isn't going to last. It will be repealed. I'm assuming everyone in here (va residents) have digned the online petition? Two Judges have already ruled these fines unconstitutional also. keep fighting it!

It is a bit more complicated than what they teach you in ASAP, believe me, I've been there. You CAN get convicted of a DUI even if you are under the .08 legal limit. It is harder to prove in court, but DUI is driving under the influence. Just because you are under the legal limit does not mean you are not impaired.

As for the refusal, yes, that is the best way out of a DUI- except for the fact your license is immediately REVOKED FOR 12 MONTHS! My boss refused a breathalizer when he flipped his truck 3 times. They took his license for a year but he got off the DUI. Oh, and just because you don't blow, doesn't mean they wont arrest you for DUI. I don't know where you heard you can't be charged for DUI without a breathalizer but it is false. Trust me, I lived in VA most of my life, got a ton of tickets in VA, and know a few state troopers up that way.

I agree that those laws are a far stretch to being considered fair. I think it is funny that police officers are supposed to "serve and protect", but what they are actually doing is causing widespread fear of authority.

Here in FL where I've been living for the past 3 years the cops are here to catch real criminals. They are more focused on catching the drug dealers and rapists than the people with lead feet. There are exceptions to every rule but never in my life have I ever passed cops at 20 mph over the limit and not flinched. Here in clearwater, even the little old ladies all drive 10 mph over the speed limit.

wow....good looking out on posting this info...

since i work in falls church,va, i'll make sure never to test the vette's or vr4's (once its back up) limits anywhere in VA...i'd rather spend my money on mods, gadgets, or partyin' like a lohan (minus the dui/drug arrest...not saying that either won't be involved though), haha...

Its going down, but its going to take a while. The two rulings only applied to their specific districts. It will be a bit of time before a court is reached whose ruling will apply throughout the entire state (partly because prosecuters don't want to appeal it that high). We'll have to wait for the general assembly to reconvene.
