The new Virginia fines are astronomical. Don't think they are designed to protect the public. This is all about money.

There were tons of cops patrolling 495 last weekend. In a stretch of maybe 7 miles, I saw about 8 people pulled over.

With the kinda of fines/jail time you're looking at for just speeding at 100+ it's probably only a little bit worse for evasion... and that assumes you got caught.
High speed chases are fucking retarded, gets innocents in harms way by the offender and the pursuing police. HOWEVER, having a no chase state policy just means every criminal will just floor it. I dunno what the fix is for that. Helicopters all over the place?

I'm glad it took me only a month to realize that I didn't like VA when I was down there for training. After getting stopped in my stock base 3k for having the car illegally lowered, and then one other stop for illegal exhaust ( also stock ) I pretty much made up my mind about some of the laws and law enforcement officers in that state.

reminds me of oahu.

when the sti/evo came out they got targeted for illegal wings and body kits, illegal exhaust, illegal suspension mods, and illegal headlights.

its not imports only either. when the s10 xtreme came out same thing. illegal body kits and illegal suspension mods.

sounds like a simple fix to me:
a. don't have stupid high fines and penalties. ie: crushing cars. this will stop minor violators from running causing damage and death.
b. if somebody runs give the police the right to STOP the person running b4 having to wait 10miles(or whatever) so the suspect can cause damage.

do both of the above and that will leave only the "real" criminals running and the cops will be able to do something about it. .02

Effective July 1 in our wonderful Commonwealth of Virginia, any traffic ticket, with the exception of regular speeding, will carry heavy civil penalties (yes, this is a new charge) in addition to the fine and court costs that you will have to pay.

Driving on a suspended or revoked permit - Civil penalty $750.00 + the court cost & fines

Reckless Driving - Civil penalty $1,050.00 + the court cost & fines

DUI - 1st offense - Civil penalty $2,250.00 + the court cost & fines

Failure to give proper signal - Civil penalty $1,050.00 + the court cost & fines

Leaving the scene of an accident - Civil penalty $3,000.00 + the court cost &fines
