Default What do speed chips do and do they really work?

So I've been hearing about speed chips. I've heard of them before but I don't quite understand how they work.

How do they work?
Do they really work?
Do they really increase HP and save on gas?
If they do, where can I get them, and where's the best kind and quality?

Thanx

They override the factory settings in your ECU. Tho for our cars I don't believe theres any that really work. But they do have a ton of them for other cars, like chevys and fords that do actually work. in fact, most dealerships sell them.
But the ones for our cars on ebay are a scam. My ECU was modified by Dynamic Racing along time ago, i don't think they do it anymore, but thats different than a chip....

^^^ exactly- there are lots of vehicles that you can get chips for that actually work (increasing power and gas mileage).

If they are legit, they usually work by changing some of your setting such that most of the time, you are not usually emission compliant anymore.

Still they don't work on our cars.

PROM (programmable read-only memory) ECU's can be improved with performance chips.

ROM (read-only memory) ECU's can't.

We have a ROM ECU.
