wastegates: I want to run the BCS but only temporarily until I install my AVC-r. If I don't run any vacuum lines to the wastegates will the turbos only reach like 7 pounds or will they boost unlimited? Also, do I need clamps on the wastegate lines? the stock ones have clamps on them but they seem like a bitch to get on.
You prolly should have waited until you got the plates. Best thing would be just to run equal length hoses to the wastegates. Then T the line to the nipple on the Y pipe. You will only be able to boost wastegate (6PSI)

I can make some plates in a matter of minutes.

After you block them off you should be all set.

thanks!

btw

that pre-cat is working out nicely. When I installed it the first time I did not realize that you left that nut on the bottom on. I installed everything and was getting weird o2 readings. I finally realized it was pushing the pre-cat off the turbo so it wasn't sealed perfectly....im so dumb

I used the EGR line flanges as blockoffs but after I welded the holes shut the exhaust side plate wasn't straight any more so I have a leak there. I'll shut it temporarily with exhaust sealant and buy a blockoff kit later.
Everything else seems to work fine.

ok, I am doing the wastegates right now and have one simple question. Do I need to use clamps on the wastegates? The only clamps I ahve which are small enough are the stockers. However they do not have enough tension to push on the silicone line. Also, I lost my last t that fits the wastegate lines. Is it ok to use the H thing that was on the rear wastegate until I can get another T?

I'm not a big fan of having a hose sticking out of the front of my car, or cutting the evap line at the tank. Isn't there another way to do this? I think I recall reading that the M-Spec kits came with a hobbs switch or something, so the evap fumes would be fed into the intake during cruise, but not while the car is off and not while the car is idling? Can anybody supply any information on how to do this?

hey I have searched the forums and couldn't find my answers,I'm still learning. i have a 99 vr4, need to do a vacuum reduction /egr delete,, Can I follow these instrucions with my car , or will I run into running issues due to the ecu??? Was wondering if anybody with a 98,99 has performed a vacuum reduction( which i'm 100 percent sure there is) Just wanted some input... I have a vacuum leak somewhere , becasue I can't control boost.. I have narrowed it down to a couple things.. I either think it has something to do with my egr, or its a vacuum leak that I haven't found. I have checked all my hoses for leaks and made sure all my connections were on. About a week ago I brought it into lse and it was throwing egr code, and I hadn't done anything to it, except remove it and attach it back. Can that effect boost...

what happens is my boost just sky rockets to somewhere above 1.5 bars and my warning turns it back down. I basically can not control boost.. need some input.

sorry if this os confusing my dam. roomies wont stop talking,, thanks dave

I ran the stock hose that was left out the wheel well area, there is a small opening there where it will just let the gases vent to the wheel well. So far I have noticed 0 gas smell.

Most of these how-to's are moved to the wiki section... http://www.3si.org/wiki/index.php/Category:How_to

This one doesnt have any notes regarding the 99's only up to 95. I would assume the 99's would probably suffer from a CEL for the evap or EGR.

I doubt the EGR had anything to do with your boost spikes. The big problem is the stock vac lines. Instead of equal length runs to the wastegates and then a direct T to the boost controller you have different lengths and then a cluster of hoses.

I wouldnt recommend a full reduction without confirmation from another 99 owner but I would look at replacing the lines to the wastegates and then T them in the center and run to your boost controller. For mine I just ran a line between the two, took it out and folded it, cut in two, added the T and then ran a line from the T to the boost controller. This helps ensure that both wastegates get the same amount of pressure or vac. The spikes are typically caused by the uneven runs of line letting one turbo spool a little longer than the other.

I've seen this happen several times now when someone installs an aftermarket boost controller and leaves the stock boost control system in place. Try unplugging your stock boost control solenoid and see if your aftermarket boost controller works a little better.
