Default Uh ohs!

So, the power steering belt broke in my car, and with it it took the alternator belt as well. So I get new belts from advanced auto, put the PS belt on and it fits fine. Then when I go to put on the alternator belt, I notice that it's WAY too loose.

I go home (my car is in my girlfriend's garage) and grab the alternator belt that Hans gave me a year ago when my alternator blew at the gathering and take it back, as I knew it would be the right size. I put them side by side, and behold, they were the same size. I start looking, and realize that the grooved part on the crankshaft was missing! Where can I get one of these, and how would I go about putting it on?! (Mine is on the left)

You can buy it from rockville auto Mitsupartsdirect.com thats where I got it. Call over the phone and say your from 3si cause their site I hear sucks and prices shit much more. Also I would recommend just getting new belts they were only like 46 bucks for both I believe. The crankshaft pulley is about 220 or so, I can look for the paperwork when I did my bros car and get you part numbers and prices later today.

Also man wow that is a lot of rust you got there I would recommend cleaning up some of it and throwing a coat of anti rust paint, also check your other pulleys as well sometimes if they are really rusty and have a none smooth surface you can really wear out a new belt in only a few thousand miles...

Oh forgot to answer another important question to put it on there are a few tricks, I just used the impact gun. If you dont have a compressor you can go another route which will work but I didnt feel too comfortable using, you can put a breaker bar there against the subframe and bump the engine it should brake loose MAKE SURE IT DOESNT START just bump it...

You will just have to replace the pulley. Check the classifieds section parts for sale or post what you need in the parts wanted section.

This is how Iceman ii pulled his off

"If you don't have an impact, you can put a breaker bar on the nut, wedge the end against the ground or the frame (depending on the length of the breaker bar), disconnect the cam/crank sensors and bump the starter... JUST BUMP IT, do not continuously crank, bumping will break it loose."

I hope you mean new not used, because I would never buy a used crank pulley just to find out that it snapped again. I think that they fall apart not only because of high miles but mostly from age and that ruber inside cracking from heat/cold and obviously just age. BUY A NEW ONE and I can almost gurantee you it will outlast your car. BTW if that bolt on the crank pulley really rusted be careful not to strip it, I cant imagine you doing it but just figured to throw it out there. Oh and make sure the belts are not to tight as I hear it can cause crankshaft damage over some time. Good luck!

Stan!

Stan, you should edit your posts instead of posting a thousand times.

Just an idea.

When I saw this thread, I thought you were going to say your power steering belt chrewed through your timing belt cover and you bent all your valves.

Just remember, it can always be worse

The oil filter has about 2000 miles on it They have these things in PA called "dirt roads". All that crap isn't really rust, it's just cached on dirt.
