Default Twin turbo vs single turbo

My friend and I have been curious as to how a single turbo works vs twin turbo. My buddy said that he believes the twin turbo works where one turbo pulls through lower RPM's and the other one pulls through the higher ones. I have no clue but am interested in the correct answer. He drives an Evo 04, I drive a vr4 98, that is how we came across the discussion.

Thanks for the website. So what is the 3000gtvr4? Sequential twin-turbo, or Parallel twin-turbo?

I dunno, I have a few customers with my Single-turbo 35R set-up that I think will be pretty crazy for a street car. Response will be silly and power potential is still well into the 600s so I am very interested in what the set-up (35R) will dyno and run at the track
Jeff

EDIT: Of course I am talking twins Vs single and not sequential Vs parallel.
