GTONW is good to go
|
ok its 2 am near on or will be by the time i done typing this out.....
i got in bed and started to tear my car apart in my head (it usually happens) and i got to thinking, well if I'm doing a complete engine rebuild then why not modify the turbo's? i'm not into spending big money on parts, in fact i'm not into spending big money at all and i believe that anything is possible, so the question is... what compressor housings will fit a 9b? and will the compressor wheel of that housing fit the 9b impeller shaft? I'm thinking something as big as it gets that fits right on. why 9b? simple... the 9b has a small impeller that will spool fast thus hopefully reduce lag or keep with the boost time of a stock 9b but with the staying power of a larger turbo. correct me if my thinking is wrong. i'm looking at other car manufactures turbo's not exactly at mitsu. i'm aware that the scooby sti housing fits which i think is where the 13T comes from am i right? from the info i get here i will scout the breaker yards for some parted out or old turbo's for cheap money and get fresh compressor wheels to replace any bad ones. there is a turbo repair co nearby me that would supply the wheels and any bearings, maybe upgrade to roller? this is a total low budget rebuild and upgrade and money is a problem, i own a car that makes me look rich but i aint got 2 pennies to rub together in truth. so i will have to earn a little to buy a little and if successful i can post up here and prove that rebuilds and upgrades can be done on a very tight budget. i will also post any misgivings i come across. so guys i'm looking for some good input ![]() thanks in advance dave

Very Tall Engine Cooler

Just a quick thought, theres a member on here who converts 9b's to 15g's for 700 dollars. Sense the pound is worth more than the dollar it would be cheaper for you and maybe run close to buying new turbos and then getting them rebuilt? The turnaround time would be longer, but you would have better turbos than 13T's. Just a thought though. Good luck.

I`m sure you can make a good turbo out od a 9b and a Subaru 13t (compressor wheel and housing), main thing is to get it balanced properly afterwards. A guy in here did some 13t`s on the cheap have a good search.
The 9b turbines are piss poor unfortunately, I`m seeing 15 psi tops at redline on the UK 13G`s with the poor turbine wheels while others are getting 18psi+ with the HL turbines.
