Hey guys,

Goal here, and a huge reason for me buying a 3s is to learn to work on cars.

So far so good, learning quicker than I thought I would (just little things, no major overhauls, engine rebuilds and such, but hey I'm pretty new to this stuff)

I now am looking to get increase my tool collection to help with my future projects.

First of which:

Torque Wrench. Which would you all suggest?

Next,

Air compressor, for painting, anybody have any suggestions?
Paint guns, varying sizes.

I have all the basic tools necessary, standard socket wrench, hydraulic jack, jack stands, screw drivers etc.

Any other suggested additions to my tool inventory would definitely be appreciated!

Thank you for your time
-Steven

Gear wrenches are handy. The service manual lists torques in ft/lbs and Nm (newton meters), and torques range from 4 around the oil pan to 180 with the rear axle nuts, or possibly more. So 2 t-wrenches are needed as one doesn't cover the range of applications. My small one is 2-20ft/lbs, the large is 20-160 if I remember right w/o looking. Got mine at NAPA - Performance Tool brand. Idk if it's a great brand, works OK. The correct torque is important, don't skimp.

Get the CD, much cheaper.

As for tool brands I like Craftsman because of the warranty. Snap On also has good tools. I'd have to agree, the Gear Wrenches are almost indispensable. Especially with angled heads. As for you air compressor look for something with a good sized tank and make sure it flows enough CFM for the tools will use. Sanders and other orbital tools use a lot. If you want to use a paint gun you will want something that flows a good amount of CFM at a high PSI for continuous use.

Yea, ebay has CDs, and has manuals from time to time. Wait for a used manual to bid on and you can get them cheaper. Some ebay stores want $85-98 for them, but you can do better than that for used ones. There are 3 main manuals: Engine, drivetrain, chassis (the main and most used); Electrical manual; and if you want there is a Body manual also. I like the manuals so I can refer to it right there when I'm working on the car, although they cost a lot more than the cd.
