Default Sohc - Dohc

Ok I know half of the people that read this will tell me I am dumb but I need to get some more info. I have a 98 3000gt soch, (it has sentimental value) and would like to put a TT doch in it. I know that I would have to buy an engine and wireing harness, but what about the gas tank and transmission....can you work a doch auto transmission with a TT doch engine??? is their anything else you can think i will need.

you can use the auto tranny, there are others doing it. You will likely want to do a search to see how some people integrate the transmission control unit with the TT engine harness.

As far as the gas tank goes, its a gas tank....you probably want to upgrade the fuel pump though.

If the SOHC has sentimental value... why not keep it as a DD and pick up a busted down TT shell? Then you could still have your car as a DD, or backup, and yet have AWD and a nice base to build up on over time. You wouldn't have to have it all put together in one week. You could take your time and buy an engine, transmission, etc as you get more and more money. To me, that would be a wiser decision. You wouldn't have to worry about sacrificing the reliability of your SOHC for something that will still be a headache once finished.

My two cents...

0-60 is probably in the high 7's low 8's. I have never taken it to the track because of transmission issues. I just put a newer transmission in and don't want to screw it up already . If I had to guess I'd say high 15s, low 16s.

The only dumb question is the one that isn't asked. + Rep for asking and admitting that you honestly did not know Honestly, buy a TT and keep the DD as is..you'll need it if/when you mod the TT or if it breaks

i obviously have never driven or road in your car but with the mods you have you should be running somewhere around a 15.5 and takin some dohc's out
but is there anyway you could take a 0-60 vid cause i am really curious what you can do cause i got a friend with a honda civic ex weight reductions, short throw shifter, stage 3 clutch, light weight flywheel, 2 step, intake, headers, downpipe, suspension, solid motor mounts, and no muffler and he can only do 0-60 in like 7.7 so i really am curious what mods i will need to beat it

oh and not really trying to tell you what to do but if i were you i would get rid of the downpipe and get 3sx long tube headers if it's in your budget, you will see a big increase pulling all the way to redline. but if you do get them i would get the high flow cat cause the race pipe with the headers will be really loud

Eh, putting headers on a SOHC will not be worth it. The car will still be slow... lol

The only thing that would justify putting headers on a SOHC would be to do extensive headwork and adding higher duration cams. I would do all of this but right now isn't exactly the best time to be spending money
