I'm SOHC and yes I was able to get the crankshaft seal off without removing the oil pump.
Its doubtful that you are SOHC also, but what I had done was with the tensioner spring (sohc only) i shaved it off until it was like a pick. I stuck it in at such an angle to puncture and get it good enough to pull out. I didn't get it on the first try, or the tenth. but it eventually came free. Put the other one on, and with an appropriate size socket, you can hammer it on (rubber mallet maybe)
I got the 'front main seal' at Advanced Autoparts (for once they got something right for me
) And it was in stock, somehow.
