Just because you could afford to buy the car doesn't mean you can afford to drive it, stop looking for handouts from other people to fix your problems

BTW, I had a 91 RT/TT before my 95 and I replaced the caps in it, no big deal, just a little preventative maintenance. The car was 13 years old at that point, the fact everything still worked as well as it did on a car that complicated was incredible
I totally agree. The TC may be a design issue of sorts since people have sealed the TC themselves and had it leak. Mine has had a very slow leak ever after I resealed it myself 4 years ago. I knew it was leaking long before the recall and just kept an eye on it. It was just one of those things I took along with owning the car. I can see a TC or seatbelts that fail causing a total loss of control of the vehicle or your body during an impact, but an ECU is starting to get a little rediculous.

It really isn't Mitsubishi's fault that they couldn't travel into the future to see what parts would start to fail 13 years after the warranty went out.

Exactly, Engineering and Economics have to strike a balance somewhere

I can say you won't get anywhere. This wasn't a saftey hazzard.

Those years were common for mitsubishi to buy and use rubicon capacitors that where not good, 3SI had issues, DSM has the issues, and also all Mitsubishi Electonic devices has them (TV's, VCR's, and such). I've worked on soo many TV's with the bad capacitors it ain't funny (projection and direct view).

Most of us know about the problem. Spend the $20 to have your caps replaced before they go bad. That's what I did.

It won't do any of us any good if we drive Mitsubishi out of business with a whole bunch of recalls.

Make sure the caps aren't leaking badly before you buy the car. Then have them replaced for $20. Pretty simple.

Wouldn't opening the ecu to replace the caps technically void the warranty (even if expired) and them exempt it from the proposed recall?

But it isn't. Replacing the CAPs isn't the only thing going bad on these ECUs. I hardly think this would put Mitsu out of business because even if it gets passed probably half or less of the affected vehicles will actually get the recall fix implemented. Thats my guess anyway.

I replaced the caps in the TT ecu i bought when I did the initial TT conversion. 1.5 years later it still fried. a few months later the replacement fried, now im on my 3rd which was recently rebuilt.. hopefully this one lasts a little longer, if not.. I may have to go AEM
