Although this thread is about 2 after market ECUs it does indicate that the OEM ECU needed replacing to begin with:

stalling and stumbling IS a direct safety concern. there are many recalls right now because of stalling. getting mitsu to cover a recall? yeah......right.

I would love for this to happen, since I am on my 3rd ECU in under a year.. and the first had caps replaced..
Wouldn't help me any though, as I would need a TT replacement and my car is technically *supposed* to have an NA ECU. ![]()

Before replacing my caps, my car could be idling fine, then all the sudden die, (not slow down and eventually quit), but die like the key was turned off.
This happened in traffic at stoplights numerous times. One time, it was more than embarrassing. . . . In heavy traffic, I was stopped with left turn-signal on. A guy in a big truck, coming towards me, was nice enough to stop to let me turn, just then the car died. I started as quick as I could, then began the turn, just in time to see an impatient driver come around the truck in the berm, he jammed the brakes to keep from plowing into the side of me. Yeah, stalling can be a safety issue. Fortunately, mine has not done it since the caps replacement. Good luck . . . you can add my name to list of cars with bad ECU.

An ECU can (and does) go bad on many cars other than ours. The stalling because of the ECU wouldn't be much different than the engine blowing a head gasket or the rings and losing compression (ie, power) and dying where the car stood. Almost anything in the engine bay could fail and cause the car to shut off, but they aren't going to build everyone a new car for free. It's out of warranty and I really doubt they're going to do anything.

well....it sounds like I am having similar issues. I havent officially started troubleshooting mine yet but I have sputtering and hesitation when i get on the gas and sometimes the car doesnt want to idle.

Maybe everyone should sell their car and buy a kia with a warranty
It is rediculous the number of people who have something go wrong with a SIXTEEN YEAR OLD car and since more than one has broken, expect the manufacturer to replace it. Shit wears out, get over it. The Tcase was a gift for all those who don't check their oil. Just because you could afford to buy the car doesn't mean you can afford to drive it, stop looking for handouts from other people to fix your problems BTW, I had a 91 RT/TT before my 95 and I replaced the caps in it, no big deal, just a little preventative maintenance. The car was 13 years old at that point, the fact everything still worked as well as it did on a car that complicated was incredible ![]()
