Aight, just got my new 91 R/T TT home, and I have some questions. I blew a power steering line or something, and when I got home to check it out, there was fluid all over the crossmember thing on the driver's side only, like under where the resivoir is. Is that where the pump is? Or is it just a line?
Also, after running and re-starting after a short amount of time off(few minutes, maybe 30 at the most), it runs REALLY rough, and feels like it's going to die. Is that an ECU issue(prev. owner said ECU was replaced, and I believe it cuz there was the old ECU in the back that I'm gonna try to repair myself)? I don't think it's MAF because I unplugged it and it ran worse. Could it be bad injectors, bad plugs(got new ones, gonna change plugs and oil and all that jazz before I ger her inspected and out on the road)? There's also a funky rattle from the rear; how hard and how much money is it to fix something with the rear differential? Is it the drive shaft, possibly? How hard is it to modify DSM SMICs to fit on an R/T TT(I have a set)? Where is the PROPER place to set up oil pressure and oil temp gauges(aftermarket ones)? The way the prev. owner has them wired in they don't work right and I'm going to re-wire them. Thats about it for now, so whatever help anyone has, I appreciate it, and I'm lookin' forward to a few days/nights of wrenching.

unfortunatley i cant answer many of your questions. but i can give you a link to a great source of info.
Stealth 316 Home. that site is like our bible. as far as the ecu goes, you can easily pull it out and check the capacitors for leakage. it only takes 5-10 mins to pull it out.

I know about stealth316; I have an ES that I've had for almost two years. I was hoping for some info thats a BIT easier to find, as unless you really know what you're looking for, it's a bit harder to find on stealth316, and my searches didn't really yield any results.

Oil Filter Fittings Adapter*-*Mitsubishi 3000GT*/*Dodge Stealth
makes install easy, I was going to set these up for mine and then decided against pulling my dash and sold my setup. As far as SMIC's it should be the same as modding them for a vr4? no? I'm pretty sure you can find that one with the search button, havent researched it yet though

The converted DSM IC's can be had frequently in the for sale section or from a member here. The price is pretty reasonable and includes necessary welding and brackets attached to have these fit appropriately.

The ECU was a rebuild unit from Multiades, a well known member, from the Boston area.
On the PS. My guess is a flex hose went due to having "trouble" getting used to the clucth. Im sure the engine was rocking and rolling alot. The stress likely took its toll. Maybe its just the return hose which should be an easy/cheap fix. On the oil filter "sandwich" plate. Try removing the 2 sensors and remove the teflon tape from the threads....might be affecting the grounding

Just take off your stock sidemounts and compare them to the DSM ones, swap the necessary parts.
Or, get with oohnoo. I'm not sure how much he charges to do the conversion if you provide the parts. Also, I believe he's in Long Island. On the funky rattle, I'd first check driveshaft, then motor mounts. I had a noise that sounded like it was coming from the rear but it turned out to be motor mounts.

Thanks for the advice from all of ya. Mass, I opened the old ECU that you had in the trunk, and that one looks fine, so I'm going to pull the other one when I get a chance, might as well while I'm rooting around fixing gauges and such, too.
Good call on oohnoo, I forgot he did the DSMs too; I'll ask him about it, because I know I can do the welding and such myself as I have a welder for alum. also. Massstealth said there was an adapter on the filter but it leaked a little oil; I'm wondering if there's somewhere else I can hook it up to. |

The rattle is from the exhaust shield thats mid-body rubbing the driveshaft. If you climb under, youll see the rubber exhaust mount stretched over. When I put the ATR downpipe on years ago the fitment was questionable. the entire exhaust is shifted to the drivers side....closer to the driveshaft. Maybe put a flex section in the downpipe or take it of and bring to a good pipe bending place to put 2 tiny bends to realign exhaust.
Sometime going over larger bumps, the exhaust will hit cross member parts in rear. The shifted exhaust is the issue. |
