The response from neason was that the ECU was not the final version for production units. The most recent GTR they tested had the final ecu version in it and produced identical times to the 1st one they tested. With a EFI car it is vary easy to make minor to massive changes in output just by changing stock timing, a/f ratios, and in a case of FI stock boost. C&D got a couple of GTR's on the dyno and IIRC they were hitting around 420 AWHP which I don't know how you would get from 480 crank hp through all the accessories and drivetrain that comes on that car. The only thing Nissan is guilty of is lowballing the output numbers of the GTR. That car is pushing a good 5xx hp crank to be running those times in the 1/4 with those traps. Its nothing new, the terminator mustang was lowballed, Ford claimed 390/390 for them and they dyno 370-38x to the wheels, ford also low balled the ford GT, chevy lowballed the c6z06 I always believed that car to be closer to 550 hp than the 505 they were claimed at. I don't mind lowball numbers, as the truth always comes out eventually. Its better than the alternative (overestimating output numbers). Look at all the rx8 owners scratching their heads about wheres my HP.

The GTR is an extremely impressive car, don't get me wrong, however the reported performance was always a bit questionable.
It's not the first time Nissan has produced questionable performance numbers.

i personally think nissan hasn't been testing production cars. they were such in a hurry to beat porcshe they probably did all they could in order to do so..

In my opinion, there are far too many *what if's*. It is my belief that there needs to be some sort of rules governing this testing, which includes a battery of tests to make sure that the actual car being tested is what is being given to the consumer, if not, it needs to be stated as to what was different, make things fair. This king of the hill game they are playing is very misleading.

Damn straight, more so in recent years, manufacturers have been using ring times for publicity and show off their new cars. Well how the hell can anyone take them seriously, or for use in comparisons if there is not proof that is even the car you can buy. I think should be controlled just like anything else. No biased judges/testers etc.

It's not 20, it's more like 200kilos. It's a typo in the original article. Nissan GTR ~3830lbs, 911 TT ~ 3500lbs. Given the same "claimed" output of 480HP, how can GTR beat 911 TT? It does not make sense to me, at least on paper. It would be nice to see independent tests though. I trust nether Nissan nor Porsche in this case.
