The ABS system on these cars is terrible. It's nearly caused me to wreck three times.

Thanks for the pictoral Struggly!
From what I've read, the main purpose of ABS is to allow steering ability during emergency braking conditions and prevent "flat-spots" on tires. As far as braking distances are concerned, ABS actually increases them (in bad weather).
Someone correct me if im incorrect.

Kinda off-topic: So, the advantages of deleting ABS are better pedal feel, shorter stopping distances, less weight, better wieght distribution, and more room under the hood. While the disadvantages of doing this are little or no steering ability under very heavy braking, possible occurance of "flat-spots", and loss of confidance. Right? Did I leave anything out?

Thanks

Not on a hybrid car. Shiver's cables can be left plugged in all the time without disabling the ABS.

The sole purpose of ABS is to prevent a wheel from locking up, not to prevent flat-spots. On a street legal still tire your not going to flat spot it just by locking it up for a little bit. It takes a lot more than that. You also will still have steering under very heavy breaking without ABS you just half to make sure that you don't lock a tire. ABS can not make traction that isn't there you just half to be more careful and know the limits of the car a little better if your running it hard without ABS.

I beg to differ. You can flat-spot the shit out of a tire from locking it for a very short distance; I have done it, and I personally know no less than four other people who have also.

I've never seen that one street tires driven at close to the speed limit. I'm sure that on a track are at speeds much great then normal driving speeds it could be a problem, but I figure at normal speeds it wouldn't be much of an issue.

Driving close to the speed limit is not something for which you require (a) threshold braking, (b) gummy rubber, and (c) adjustable brake proportioning.

Just did mine this weekend, very easy install once you know what you're doing and get the hang of it.

Thought it was going to be a lot more difficult.
